Harrahs to ban US poker advertising at 2007 WSOP?
By spectrefax on 02-17-2007 1:44 PM

This is copy and paste from another forum. Anyone have any news on this?

--------------------
Harrah's board decided yesterday that no poker sites accepting US players would be allowed to advertise at the WSOP.

Meaning no .net, no nothing from Pokerstars, Fulltilt, etc.

Foreign sites not allowing US players will be allowed to advertise.

Fulltilt had bought the rights to the felt......guess that won't be happening.

GG US poker sites.

if we can still satelite using online sites, that is what matters.

Why would they have as many satellites now, if they aren't going to get the exposure that they wanted at the WSOP? If this is true I imagine it would severely cut down on the amount of seats that full tilt and stars are giving out.

I love it.

Last year's WSOP looked awful. 8 of the 9 players at every table all had some ugly ass Full Tilt shirt or Pokerstars shirt. I understand the need for promotion, but it was overkill.

No matter how you get in, there's plenty of ways to win the money to get in the WSOP. That's all that matters.

Well, it's definitely not the right step we needed harrahs to take.

It will be interesting what comes of this.

Last year they made people cover up the .com on shirts, hats, etc....  I assume this year you'll have to cover up the .net

And for what's it's worth.....I'm pretty sure the original post is 100% true.

I'd assume this means no pokerstars booth with free beer and food either.

It's looking more and more like the WSOP is going to be drastically different this year.

Big difference this year.

Happiest person in the room at WSOP?  Phil Helmuth

Brianyut is exactly right. I think this is why pokerstars has not announced whether or not they are going to run satellites.

If true, I bet this means no advertsing that doesn't put money in Harrah's pocket.

All those tacky shirts and caps don't benefit Harrahs!

So let me get this str8.  Players can dress up like spiderman, but can't wear a free tshirt?

ridiculous.  its pretty obvious that Harrah's is leading the charge once more to ban online poker.

Enough money is still being made, FT, PS, Bodog, Doyles Room and UB should start up their own WSOP and have it elsewhere...

I am pretty sure that they banned it last year also, which is why they put tape over the .com or .net on everyone's clothes.  Maybe Pokerstars will just design a shirt that only says Pokerstars and leave out the .com.

By the way, Pokerstars has announced that they are running qualifiers, and that they will be starting before the end of the month.  Lee Jones posted that on 2+2 a few days ago I guess.

some good information and some misinformation here. let me add to it:

the ban is correct but is passed down from Navada Gaming - not Harrahs decision - theyre not allowed to take money from companies that break the new laws

Harrahs stands to lose A LOT from it - sponsorship money, advertising, Gaming Life Expo money, suite rentals, reduced field size...in fact, no one would hate this news more than the people at WSOP

People are allowed to wear whatever .net gear they want - it doesnt impact this

Sites will still satellite people into the Main Event because of TV expsoure that goes beyond the poker room at the Rio

"the ban is correct but is passed down from Navada Gaming - not Harrahs decision - theyre not allowed to take money from companies that break the new laws"

Isn't it true that none of the Poker Sites or players are breaking the "new laws" since it only applies only to financial institutions?

Was it your intention to add to the misinformation?  Where is your info coming from cdn?
