The 100k Project is live[ return to main articles page ]
I can finally stop answering questions about when this is going to go live because as of today we have started the race to $100,000. There were multiple delays in getting started because we wanted to be really ready and have everything set up for our guy to succeed. We had one person ready to go and then they dropped out, and then we were going to do it on PokerShare and well... I don't even want to talk about that.
The site is located at 100kproject.com <READMORE>and for those of you who haven't heard about it we are testing a statement that Ed Miller made in the twoplustwo online magazine. His statement was -
"An excellent online player could start the year with $1,000 and end it with more than $100,000 with very little risk of going broke. The next year they could turn that bankroll into more than $300,000. A world-class player could hit a million after two or three years."
It was debated a number of places including my site. I came in on the side of agreeing with the statement and in fact I said I was certain that I could coach someone to it if they weren't needing to take money out of their bankroll to pay the bills. I should have known that as soon as I said that someone would want to do it. Thus the project begun.
We will be presenting it like a blog, with help from a few friends. Rob from PokerPatterns has designed a graphing program to keep accurate track of our player's progress. Our player by the way has chosen the appropriate name of LabRat for the duration of the project. Mark Blade has offered his advice, and Josh from PAHUD hooked us up with a copy for our player so that he could start with his full 1k instead of $975. Beanie has provided some logistical help and many of the member's of my site have offered support as have a number of P5er's. The last thank you goes to P5's for giving me a place to talk about it and generate a little buzz. I'll surely be mentioning P5's regularly in the entries.
I got an email from Ed Miller a week ago as well, and he seems as curious as we are about whether we will be able to pull it off or not.
On another topic my bankroll is approaching critical mass. It may be time soon for a run at the rankings. I don't have nearly enough time to compete for the top 10 yet, but if I can make it into the top 75 I would certainly be proud of myself, and at that point I could probably dedicate more time to tournaments. I've final tabled two 100+9's on Party in the last week (2 of the four I've played) so my little tune up is going well and I'll be ready to get serious about it within the next few weeks I hope. Unfortunately those two were an 8th and a 9th place where I just got absolutely no cards at the final table so they weren't huge cash winnings.
Last thing for today - This blog has really turned into an instructional blog, and I never know what people want to hear about. Feel free to email me with suggestions or questions and give me some ideas about where to go next. You can reach me at fox@pokerfox.net or PM me through the system here at P5's.
