This Sunday, September 5th, the 2010 PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) begins with three NLHE events that will boast over $5,000,000 in guaranteed Sunday prize money. The marquee online poker tournament series will pay out a total cash prize purse of at least $50,000,000 during September, with a total of 62 tournaments capped by the $10,000,000 Guaranteed ($5,000+200 NLHE Two-Day) Main Event on September 26th. Besides being the largest online tournament series on a yearly basis, the PokerStars WCOOP represents an opportunity for world-class players to make a significant impact on the PocketFives Worldwide Online Poker Rankings while bringing many members of the community together through forum strategy and rail posts, private last-longer contests, and the satisfaction of seeing PocketFivers take home serious cash.
Last year's WCOOP was dominated by PocketFivers Yevgeniy Jovial Gent Timoshenko (Main Event winner for $1.7m -- pictured), Dan djk123 Kelly (winner of two events and final-tabled the Main Event for over $950,000 combined), Sumpas (winner of the High Roller event for $611,000) and Team PokerStars pro Bertrand ElkY Grospellier, who won two NLHE events last year for $496,000 combined.
Throughout the month, PocketFives will feature WCOOP recaps highlighting the accomplishments of today's online poker superstars along with currently unknown players who will make a name for themselves by final-tabling their first career marquee event. In addition to our front page coverage, we will also feature several Team PokerStars members on our weekly PocketFives Podcast, starting with Daniel Negreanu, who will call-in next week to field questions from PocketFives forum members. If you have a question or comment for Daniel, you can post it in the podcast thread before Monday. To keep up with how your favorite PocketFivers are faring in the 2010 WCOOP, visit the P5s Poker Discussion Forum and the 2010 WCOOP Final Table Results page.
