The 888poker Super XL Series got off to a flying start on Thursday with an online poker legend making his presence known and possibly the birth of another.

Chris Moorman, an 888poker ambassador and online poker’s all-time leading tournament money winner, got straight to work by making the final table of the opening event.

Not long after tweeting that, Moorman busted in ninth place but if it’s a sign of things to come, the rest of the fields could be in trouble.

Canada’s ‘Mindcrushers’ topped the 1,568 entry field in Event #1, a $109 No Limit Hold’em event, to walk away with $28,224. Runner-up ‘clmbndream’ earned $20,117.44 for his efforts. Finishing in third place was ‘trojanmouse’ for $15,052.80 – but it wasn’t the last time we’d hear from the player.

Event #2 was the $12 Mini Opening event and had a field of 2,099 who rebought 1,126 for a total prize pool of $26,133.50. Walking away with the win and $5,709.09 was Germany’s ‘jobsster’. He beat out Latvia’s ‘samryk’ for the win.

The third and final event of the opening event was the $55 buy-in Turbo Opening Event. There were 685 players, plus 271 rebuys, in this event and Poland’s ‘Ozzy_m’ stood tall over all of them when the final card was dealt. ‘Ozzy_m’ earned $8,962.50 after beating out Russia’s ‘Omfg72oAgain’ heads-up for the win. But if you look further down the list of players at the final table you see the name ‘trojanmouse’ again. After making the final table in Event #1 earlier in the day he repeated the feat and finish fifth in third event for $2,509.50.

While Moorman and ‘trojanmouse’ were two of the biggest stories on Day 1, it’s hard not to notice that 888poker crushed the guarantees in each of the three events on Day 1.

Day 2 of the Super XL Series schedule includes two events and ‘trojanmouse’ might want to pay attention. The “Twins” events are a pair of $55 buy-in events starting at 7 pm GMT, both with a $20,000 guarantee. The events offer bonuses to players who find success in both events. Players who cash in both tournaments win a seat to the Mini Main Event on January 29 worth $160. Players who pull a ‘trojanmouse’ and final table both events win a High Roller seat worth $2,100 and a Main Event seat worth $1,050. Should one player win both events they’ll earn an additional $100,000.
