We’re quickly coming up on St. Patrick’s Day, and the Napa Valley Casino in American Canyon, California is celebrating full throttle. On Tuesday, March 13th at 11:00pm local time, the Napa Valley Casino is holding a $1,000 freeroll, with registration starting at 9:00pm for those who are already seated at live action tables. For those who aren’t already seated, registration opens at 10:00pm.

The $1,000 freeroll doesn’t have a buy-in, but it comes with a $5 dealer appreciation add-on, $10 rebuys during the first four rounds, and a $20 add-on at the end of the fourth round. Poker Room Manager Chris Henderson told PocketFives in an exclusive interview that he expects a packed house to be on hand: “Tuesday night for that tournament will be crazy. When we have a $1,000 freeroll, the house is full with people standing around trying to get into games and trying to get into the tournament. Everyone will be wearing green.”

You’ll definitely see a sea of leprechaun look-alikes that night, as between 9:00am and 10:00pm, players wearing green in the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day will receive an entry to win prizes from Napa Valley Casino. Players will earn additional entries for every half-hour of play and must be present at 10:00pm to win. Prizes will include a hodge-podge of Napa Valley Casino gear, including t-shirts, hats, and coins, as well as tournament entries.

On why Napa Valley Casino is keen on giving away gear to players, Henderson rationalized, “People appreciate merchandise from NVC. That’s why we’ve branded card protectors, t-shirts, beanies, and hats. People like wearing casino gear, especially if it’s free.”

Napa Valley Casino’s management started the year by focusing on the card room’s slate of tournaments. It brought back a popular Monday event and also instituted a Player of the Year race to increase participation. “Our tournaments are going better than ever,” Henderson updated us by saying. “People love the Player of the Year race. Our Monday night tournament we brought back is getting 30 players minimum. All of our tournament fields have increased since the start of the New Year.”

In April, Napa Valley Casino plans to hold a freeroll for the top 40 in its Player of the Year race. The top 45 will soon be displayed on a running leaderboard so players can see where they stand.

If you’re in the Bay Area and want to venture out to the card room, what night should you do so? We asked Henderson that very question: “When it comes to live games, our casino has been full of action every day. On Tuesdays and Wednesday nights, we have PLO. Every day, our Omaha High-Low game has been great. On Fridays and Saturdays, our $5/$10 No Limit game has been crazy; we’ve had people sign up a day in advance for it. If you’re looking for action, even in a $3/$6 Limit game, that’s our bread and butter.”

Finally, California is in the midst of discussing the legalization of internet poker. Napa Valley Casino works closely with CalShark.com, a free-money site, and Henderson told us what he’d expect if the online version of the game were regulated in the West Coast state.

“If CalShark.com turns into something, we’ll part of that,” Henderson predicted. “Casinos in California will definitely benefit from online poker. It’s another way to transform the game. Beginning players can play nickel and dime games and learn online. Then, they’ll come play live. Since they know the game better, they can go from sitting on the computer to playing at a card room, which benefits us. If they have a great experience, they’ll come more frequently and play more frequently. It’ll help the poker industry grow and expand.”
