On Sunday morning, 2011 World Series of Poker Main Event November Niner Ben BenbaLamb (pictured) posed a pretty simple question on Twitter: “I wonder if anyone will Tweet about #BlackFriday today?” What followed was a wave of comments from online poker players commemorating the one-year anniversary of Black Friday, when the U.S. Government indicted the founders of, and payment processors associated with, the three largest U.S.-facing rooms.

Among the players checking in on Sunday was Joey cotchery89Weissman, who Tweeted, “#blackfriday Never Forget.” Tweeting back to Lamb was Tim Mahoney, who responded that Black Friday allowed him to re-center his energies: “#BlackFriday allowed me to refocus on my degree. Still loving the live grind.” Another player responded to Lamb sarcastically: “I wonder if anyone will Tweet about #BlackFriday today? Prolly not, we’re all pretty much over it… #sarcasmfont.”

Randall Randallh21Hernandez hails from Costa Rica and was indirectly affected by the events of Black Friday after sites like PokerStars booted U.S. players. Hernandez chimed in, “One year ago #BlackFriday, ohhhh missing the huge guarantees, but loving the small fields, ready for the #sundaygrind.”

James P0KERPR033Campbell (pictured) called for action on the one-year anniversary of Black Friday: “Black Friday is trending on Twitter. Millions of people want to play poker online from their own homes! Legalize it and regulate it! #fDOJ.” Campbell hails from Massachusetts and is a former #1 player here on PocketFives.

Sites like PokerNews and CardPlayer commemorated Black Friday by recapping the major events that unfolded in the year since April 15th, 2011. Meanwhile, players in non-U.S. countries paused to recognize a day that changed online poker forever. In that crowd was U.K. player Kevin kevlar Frame, who Tweeted, “Wow, it’s been a year since the supposed Land of the Free stopped its citizens playing online poker #blackfriday.”

Making last year’s WSOP November Nine with Lamb was Phil USCphildoCollins (pictured), who blasted out a Black Friday Tweet of his own: “This is BS #blackfridaytweet.” Around the same time as Collins’ Tweet hit cyberspace, Faraz The-ToiletJaka, who told us on last month’s PocketFives Podcast that he has been building a casterboard company and energy drink, Tweeted, “1st Anniversary of Black Friday when online poker in the U.S. was shut down. In honor of my $ being taken away, going to bink the hell outta 2day.”

Andrew ASAP17Sapiro, who calls California home, demanded justice on the one-year anniversary of Black Friday: “Many of my friends’ lives were turned upside down a year ago today. Here’s to freedom and hoping there is some form of justice. #BlackFriday.” Slightly more upset was former PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Main Event champ Ryan Daut44 Daut, who shared his Sunday plans on Twitter: “Celebrating Black Friday by playing poker on Merge from the USA. Fuck you DOJ, come at me bro.”

Two years ago, Jerry sandler1860 Payne made the final table of the World Poker Tour’s Hollywood Poker Open. The American was among uprooted in 2011 and Tweeted, “I haven’t played online poker for more than a year. Ya know, just haven’t felt like it. Srsly tho, feels like so much longer. SMD DOJ.”

Among the very first members of the PocketFives community was Jennifer Jennicide Leigh (pictured), who has been with the site throughout countless ups and downs. Leigh gave her two cents on Black Friday via Twitter: “It’s April 15th, one full year after Black Friday. I’m still grieving. DOJ, please give us our jobs back. Thank you.”

Also a longtime member of PocketFives, Adam Roothlus Levy reflected on the industry’s status in the 365 days since Black Friday: “Overall, it does seem like the poker industry is starting to get back on their feet, but not without a permanent limp.” Levy also recalled where he was last year when the grave news hit: “Last year, I was headed to @coachella when the news broke about Black Friday. Wasn’t going to let it ruin my weekend, but reality set in after.”
