AJKHoosier1 and Cobra234 Lead PocketFivers into WCOOP Final Day[ return to main articles page ]

Today marks the second day of the 2008 PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) Main Event. Play on Sunday night stopped when there were 60 people remaining. Perched atop the leader board at the end of Day 1 was august35, who held 3.8 million chips. Right behind him is PocketFiver Cobra234, who is in second place with 2.38 million chips. The number two ranked player on PocketFives.com, Alex AJKHoosier1 Kamberis, is fifth in chips with 2.18 million. All told, there are 25 PocketFivers among the 60 players remaining in the field, which means that members of the online poker community make up 42% of the players left in the WCOOP Main Event. Play resumes at 4:30pm ET today.

Cobra234 hails from Denmark. He’s fresh off a third place in the Super Tuesday on PokerStars in July. In that tournament, he cashed for $40,170. Last month, he finished 12th in the Sunday Warm-Up for $4,800. Also in July, he made the final table of the $100 rebuy on PokerStars, finishing fifth and cashing for $3,581. Cobra234 logged a cash in the seventh event of the 2008 WCOOP, a $215 Pot Limit Omaha Six-Max tournament with a $300,000 guarantee. He enters the final table holding 2.38 million chips, trailing the chip leader by about 1.4 million.

Alex AJKHoosier1 Kamberis is ranked second in the PocketFives Online Poker Rankings and is first in the Pro Poll. In July, he placed second in the Full Tilt Poker $1 Million Guaranteed, cashing for $135,000. He won the $150K Weekly on Absolute Poker in the same month for $37,500. Two weeks ago, Kamberis won the $150 buy-in $40,000 Guaranteed on Full Tilt Poker, pocketing $31,000. In tournaments that are tracked for the PocketFives.com Rankings, he banked $86,000 in August. During the 2008 World Series of Poker, Kamberis finished 34th in a $5,000 No Limit Hold’em event, taking home $16,147.

Besides Kamberis, the only other ranked PocketFiver left in the WCOOP Main Event is charder, who sits at #50 on PocketFives. He won the Pot Limit Omaha WCOOP Second Chance tournament for $23,000 and then finished as the runner up in the No Limit Hold’em Six-Handed WCOOP Second Chance for another $18,500. He finished second in the UltimateBet $200,000 Guaranteed last week for $27,000. In May, he won the $100 rebuy on PokerStars for $33,990. In tournaments that count for the PocketFives Rankings, he banked $65,000 last month.

Bertrand ElkY Grospellier and Ryan Daut44 Daut are two former PokerStars Caribbean Adventure winners and PocketFivers left in the field. Grospellier won the 2008 PCA for $2 million and is a proud member of Team PokerStars Pro. He’s coming off a tournament in Macau and has been busy competing in the World Series of Poker Europe in addition to the virtual felts of PokerStars. Daut won the 2007 PCA for $1.5 million, defeating Isaac Haxton heads-up.
