‘begood9999’ and ‘FLBonatto’ scored the ninth and tenth PokerStars SCOOP titles for Brazil this year

After 17 events of the ongoing Spring Championship of Online Poker, and 51 total tournaments, players from Brazil have won 10 titles. That’s one-fifth of the gold medals up for grabs.

On Friday, Brazil bagged its ninth and tenth SCOOP titles this year. That seemed to be just another day at the office for players from the South American nation.

In the mid-stakes version of Event #16, a $109 No Limit Hold’em Super Progressive Knockout, Brazil’s ‘FLBonatto‘, who finished ninth in the Sunday Warm-Up in December 2014, picked up the win and earned $46,000. There were 5,980 entrants and by the time the final table rolled around, ‘FLBonatto’ had the third shortest stack.

However, he made a run early, scoring a massive pot with AhKd against the AdTd of ‘schamixx‘. ‘schamixx’ hit two pair on the flop to go from underdog to favorite, but ‘FLBonatto’ turned a king to pull away for good. And after failing to hold down a final table chip lead a few days ago in Event #4 of SCOOP after his aces were cracked, ‘FLBonatto’ closed Event #16 out, earning $46,772.57 plus another $9,620.07 in bounties.

Brazil’s other win on Friday came in the low-stakes version of Event #17, a $27 Pot Limit Omaha Heads-Up tournament. There were 1,836 players and a person needed nine wins in order to earn a SCOOP title.

In the finals, Brazil’s ‘begood9999‘ defeated ‘Pastello‘. The defining hand happened during the third level of play, when after a flop of Jd4h3h, ‘begood9999’ check-raised and the turn was the Ts. ‘begood9999’ bet 1,209 and his opponent called, bringing a 9h on the river.

This time, ‘begood9999’ checked, his opponent bet 2,776, and ‘begood9999’ just called behind, showing 6c5d5h2h for a rivered baby flush. ‘Pastello’ showed KcJc9c4d for two pair, which gave ‘begood9999’ a 3:1 chip lead, one that he’d only need 11 more hands to close out and earn $5,689.43.

The high-stakes version of Event #17 featured a rock solid final four, which included seasoned poker pro Phil Galfond and #4-ranked PocketFiver ‘lena900‘, who were both bumped from the tournament in the semis. Their eliminations set up a final between Germany’s ‘RaúlGonzalez‘ and UK’s ‘Mafews‘, one which the former took down for over $100,000. There were 175 entrants and Germany scored its sixth win of SCOOP.

After Friday, players from Brazil have won ten events, four more than the next closest country, Germany. The UK has five 2016 SCOOP titles, Russia has four, and Austria, Australia, the Netherlands, Norway, and Romania each have two.

In terms of money won, it’s a closer race, with Brazil leading Canada by $140,000:
