The Full Tilt Online Poker Series kicked off this past Wednesday with the No Limit Holdem Event #1, which offered a $1,063,800 prize pool and paid out $183,500 to the first place winner. For the past couple of years, it has been a tradition for high-stakes online tournament players to compete in contests that allow them a chance to match their skills against the best in the world using a points format. Now that the weekend is upon us, these ferocious competitors are geared up for what promises to be an exciting way for P5'ers to watch and cheer-on their favorite participants in this "Winner Take All" format that will award $30,000 to the winning team.
Based on a points system created by respected PocketFiver "cjm," each team consists of three PocketFivers (there are six total teams), and each team has paid $5,000 up front for the privilege to compete. Among the big name players are defending Contest champions Joshua "bbbbb33" Weizer and Chris "Cmoney3" Kline (right), who collected a combined $16,000 for their efforts in November of last year.
This month's FTOPS consists of 20 events, including the $2,500 No Limit Holdem Event #17, with a guaranteed prize pool of $1.5 Million Dollars. Many Full Tilt Poker pros will be competing, and PocketFiver Scott "emptyseat88" Fischman (left) will be the official host of the event. Although each player in this contest is eligible to play all events, only the top 8 scores (per player) will count towards the final point total.
The standings, as of February 8th, show the team of "USCPhildo," "GhettoFabolous," and "Bhanks11" on top with 213.22 Points, followed closely by the team of "Cmoney3," "AJKHoosier1," and "bbbbb33" who have 184.04 Points. Many poker players may feel intimidated by the large buyin amounts required to play in one of the FTOPS events, but Full Tilt Poker offers satellite tournaments throughout the day (and night), where players can earn a seat to any of the events for as little as $2.25! Whether you're competing against the pros of rooting for your favorite player from the rail, check out the action this weekend at Full Tilt and see for yourself why these players are among the best in the business!
