Last month, another Brazilian hit it big on the online poker felts. His name: KKremate(pictured), who came away with an outright victory in the PokerStars Sunday $100 Rebuyfor $54,000. There were 922 entrants in the tournament, who combined to spit out a prize pool of $290,000, and the South American defeated NhFyheads-up.

“It was a pretty nice feeling,” KKremate told PocketFives in an exclusive interview. “It’s the second time I have won the Sunday Rebuy this year and that’s one of the toughest tournaments on the schedule.” The first time he took it down was in the opening month of 2013, which was good for $58,000 officially.

He told us that this time around, the field played fairly aggressively from 18 players left down to 10. He explained, “I went a bit slower during this stage and, when everyone started to play tightly at the final table, I started to play more hands and was more active.” The top six players walked away with at least $10,000 and the top 108 finishers made the money.

As we mentioned, KKremate took the Sunday $100 Rebuy down for the first time back in January. As such, he apparently feels comfortable in it and explained, “It’s one of my favorites because almost the whole tournament, it’s deep. It’s probably an average of 40 big blinds deep, but it gets shorter on the final table because everyone plays tighter. Being deep is good because you can do more things with your chips and get an edge against other players.”

KKremate has a rock solid tournament resume that includes a win in the PokerStars Sunday 500 in mid-August of last year for $69,000 officially, his largest tracked online MTT score to date. He final tabled the Sunday Million in 2010 for $46,000 and also won the PokerStars $109 Cubed in February 2011 for $44,000. He sports wins in the PokerStars Big $109, Big $162, and Wednesday Hundred Grand, just to name a few.

As you might imagine, he has been content with his online performance, telling PocketFives, “I have been pretty happy with my online results. I have won several tough tournaments and majors, but never had the glory in a series like WCOOP or SCOOP, so I hope to reach that goal during the ongoing WCOOP. I’m playing my best game now and feeling pretty confident about that.”

Two million dollars of his $2.2 million in tracked scores have come on PokerStars, the world’s largest online poker room. He sits at #24 worldwide in the PocketFives Online Poker Player Rankingsand was ranked as high as #18 earlier this year. He is #2 in the Brazil poker community and is quickly approaching 3,000 tracked in the money finishes.

KKremate is a former chessplayer and said that poker began to be popularized among its players. He charged that his experience in chess has helped him out in poker: “I keep thinking about everything that is happening during a session, strategy, and things like that.”
