An excellent component of the World Series of Poker is that it draws out the biggest pros in the game as well as those who are looking to make their mark. One of the people who has made a deep run at the 2014 WSOP Main Event falls into the latter category, Zionsville, Illinois’ Christopher Greaves. He finished in 12th place for $565,000.

Greaves came into Day Six of the WSOP Main Event in a battling position, holding a decent stack of 2.8 million in chips, which put him in 31st place at the start of the day.

According to the Hendon Mob database, the 2014 Main Event was only the second live tournament cash of his career, following up on a 2005 CardPlayer Cruise tournament that earned him $2,200. Needless to say, Greaves will run that total up vastly.

Greaves had been steadily making his way up the leaderboard throughout the run of the Main Event leading up to Day Six. Starting on Day 1C, Greaves ran his chip stack up to 55,025 in chips, fighting through the largest Main Event starting day in history.

Day 2C saw Greaves make his way into the day’s top 40, holding 207,400 in chips, and on Day 3, he jumped up to 458,000. It was Day 4 where Greaves made some of his biggest moves, nearly tripling his stack and finishing at 1.205 million. By the time Day 5 concluded, Greaves was in prime condition with 2.8 million in chips and showed the patience and ability to deal with the large field.

Can Greaves take on the “Star Trek” mantle in going where at least he hasn’t gone before? It would be an intriguing storyline should Greaves be able to run his stack into a chance at the World Championship in November 2014.
