In recent days, Jimmy JMolloyMolloy (pictured) raced through the field of the PokerStars Sunday $100 Rebuy, coming away with the win for $46,000 after a heads-up chop with fellow PocketFives member besserweg. “It feels great to finally get one through on a Sunday,” Molloy told us. “I am really happy about it.”

It was Molloy’s first Sunday Major win and, even though it ended in a chop, it was still quite memorable. “Some of the players were mentioning a chop earlier when we were six-handed,” Molloy said, “but it didn’t make much sense to do it at that point. When we were three-handed, I brought it up again and they both agreed to look. I planned on asking for a bit more and so did the chip leader, so we didn’t waste much time getting back to playing.”

After heads-up play began, Molloy lost a sizable pot and a chop was once again brought up. “This time,” said Molloy, “my opponent was willing to give up a small bit to me, so I figured it was the smart thing to do. Even though he was somewhat inexperienced, he had definitely been the player giving me the most problems short-handed, so I figured I might as well deal and then hopefully get the $4,000 left to play for.”

The final table itself was anything but simple, as it also featured the likes of WPT Festa al Lago runner-up Michael benvo123Benvenuti (pictured) and former #1 ranked PocketFiver TJ 1bigacehole Ulmer. “There were a lot of good players there, but luckily for me, a lot of them were short, so they were somewhat handcuffed,” Molloy recalled. “I got very fortunate to cooler benvo123 with K-K to Q-Q early in the final table, so that was huge for me. It was one of the tougher final tables I’ve been at.”

He plans to sink a portion his $100 Rebuy money back into his bankroll and put the rest into the bank. He explained, “I took a decent hit during SCOOP even though that was a while back and recently moved into a condo downtown, so that drained a bit of my bankroll as well. I’m going to replenish it and hope to keep running well.”

It’s hard to believe that Molloy, #14 worldwide in the PocketFives Rankings, hadn’t won a Sunday Major before a few weeks ago. Accordingly, it was cause for celebration. He said, “Sundays are not usually my best day of the week. Right now, I’ll stick to my grind. I like to play lots when I’m running well; it’s more fun.” Yes, he celebrated by grinding, and grinding some more.

You might not know that Molloy spent two years working at a golf course and enjoys the game outside of poker. “I used to be really good when I was younger,” he assessed. “Nowadays, I am still probably better than most, but a little bit rusty.”

He wanted to send a shout out to Jon apestyles Van Fleet, a longtime PocketFiver, for “coaching me and helping me work on my game off the tables.”
