Montenegro became the sixth winner of the PocketFives.com Triple Crown in 2010 and notched his fourth overall. He’s a former winner of the Full Tilt $750,000 Guaranteed, PokerStars $100 rebuy, Full Tilt $100,000 Guaranteed, Full Tilt $150 rebuy, and UB.com $100,000 Guaranteed Deep Stack. The Costa Rican sits at #27 in the Online Poker Rankings and rose one spot on the leadebroard this week.
PocketFives.com: How does it feel to take down your second Triple Crown in a four-week span?
Felipe Montenegro: It feels real good. In the last month, two times I had two wins and couldn’t get the third one, so it felt good to get it done.
PocketFives.com: Are you in a groove right now on the virtual felts?
Felipe Montenegro: I guess. I took about 15 days off, came back, and have had a great start. I hope it continues to go like this for the rest of the year.
Felipe Montenegro: Small fields and weak players is the perfect combination for making lots of final tables and getting scores. Also, the structures on Cake are pretty good and the players are so bad that you always get spots to chip up and get your chips in good. PartyPoker and bwin structures are not as good and the players are a little tougher. There are a lot of Euros on bwin and on PartyPoker, the structures are really fast and there’s a lot of variance.
PocketFives.com: Do you have any gaps in your game right now?
Felipe Montenegro: I do, unfortunately. I try and take advantage of bubbles or weak players too often sometimes and end up donking stacks or giving chips when I shouldn’t, but I’ll fix them soon enough. It doesn’t get me in much trouble against donks because I eventually get them, but the better players do get me sometimes.
PocketFives.com: What are you gunning for now?
Felipe Montenegro: I want to win another major and really want to focus in the $1,000s and $500s since I haven’t done well in those.
PocketFives.com: Who is the best No Limit Hold’em MTT player right now?
Felipe Montenegro: I don’t think there is one player who I could say is the best like you would in tennis or some other sports. I think there are a lot of great players. There is a select group of 50 who are at the same level and whoever is catching cards at that point will probably win.
