The "World" was certainly in full effect in Event #15 of the 2012 PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP). Players from four continents made the final six in the $215 Pot Limit Omaha Six-Max event, including North America, South America, Europe, and Asia. The half-dozen represented one of the most eclectic groups of players we've seen deep in a WCOOP event in quite some time.InsuredPlay makes PocketFives' WCOOP coverage possible. A three-way chop ended matters and wasn't laborious either. As text found on the PokerStars Blog explained, "Our final three jumped into deal-making mode and what is usually a long, drawn-out filibuster containing movie quotes and past accomplishments became a five-minute acceptance leaving $5,000 for tonight's champ."
When the smoke cleared on Event #15, Clayton Clayton_27 Newman (pictured) came away with the victory and earned the extra $5,000 from the chop. The U.S. transplant now playing in Mexico banked $51,000 and is on the cusp of passing $1 million in tracked cashes in his PocketFives profile.Newman was quite active on Twitter throughout his final table run. Upon making the six-handed finale, he chirped, "Final table of the $215 PLO Six-Max! I'm coming in 3 of 6. $63k up top. GOGOGO!" The Mexico poker community member then reported, "Locked up $46k in a three-player chop. Playing for the remaining $5k and the WCOOP bracelet! #VivaLaMexico."
We'd expect to see a lot more from Newman throughout the 2012 WCOOP, as he Tweeted just a few hours after his big win, "Sorry if my 'thank yous' took up your Twitter feed. A big TY to all. Back on the WCOOP grind tomorrow, I'm 4th place in Player of the Series."
Newman edged out the Philippines' kunkku heads-up, and second place was worth $44,000. Third place in the short-handed PLO event went to Germany's baexy, while coming in fourth was a familiar name in the online poker world, Team PokerStars Online front man and recent EPT Copenhagen Mickey mementmori Petersen (pictured). The Denmark poker player banked $23,000. Petersen earned his $5 million cash badge in late August and has been a card-carrying member of PocketFives since 2009. He has never won a WCOOP bracelet… yet. Petersen posted on Twitter after his bust-out, "Thanks for the support, got 4th for $23,241. Fine with my play, but ICM is rough as a shortie when equity runs so close, back at it tmrw."
The Czech Republic's culibrk1 came in fifth place and walked away with $15,000, while Brazil's Joao Mathias Baumgarten, known on PocketFives as joaomathias, rounded out the final table. The tournament drew over 2,000 players and the top 264 made the money.
Germany's George Danzer, who collected his second career WCOOP bracelet this year, and Norway's LuckyLukeKK, who has five in the money finishes already, lead the WCOOP Player of the Series leaderboard at 160 points apiece. The top five finishers will get a prize:
