Goliath Poker Tournament Coming to Coventry's Ricoh Arena
The Grosvenor UK Poker Tour is about to hit Coventry, UK in a huge way in August. By huge, we mean that for just a £100+20 buy-in, you can play for a share of at least £250,000 in the featured event on the schedule, the Goliath. The Goliath is predicted to be as big as it sounds, as instead of taking place at a casino, it will take place at the Ricoh Arena (pictured below).
The Goliath features seven opening days from August 8 to 14 before moving on to Day 2 on August 15 and the final day on August 16. Poker players should have plenty of play in this tournament due to receiving a monstrous 25,000 starting chips with 40-minute blinds. The schedule appears to get deeper as the tournament progresses considering that blind levels on the final day are 60 minutes.
Last year’s Goliath was a huge success, with 3,394 entrants creating a huge £339,400 prize pool. Ryan Foster took the top spot after beating Mark Adam heads-up to win £62,120. This year, the tournament organizers, now in their fifth year running the event, expect more than 4,000 players.
While the entry fee is reasonable for many players, especially for a live event, there are ways you can get in even cheaper. For example, if you play at the Grosvenor Casino online poker room, you can win a seat to the Goliath for just £8. Also, you can buy-in directly at any of the 57 Grosvenor Casinos throughout the UK, with many of them also offering live satellites.
Taking place alongside of the Goliath are a handful of other tournaments all reasonably priced between £25+5 and £200+20. The lower buy-in tournaments have a bit of variety, including a £30+5 Win the Button on August 8, a £25+5 Open Dealer’s Championship on August 9, a £30+5 4/5/6 Omahaevent on August 10, a £25+5 Blind Man’s Bluff on August 11, a £60+10 per team Tag Team on August 12, and a £30+5 Deep & Steep on August 16.
Additionally, from August 13 to 16, the 2015 Goliath schedule will have a £200+20 buy-in 50/50 Event. This tournament features three opening days taking place on August 13, 14, and 15, with players starting with 50,000 in chips and a £50,000 prize pool guarantee. Players who move on from the opening flight will all face off on a final day on August 16.
