I teach a lot of players how to use things like PokerTracker, PokerCharts, and PAHUD. Many players get every piece of software they can get and spend piles of money on things like lessons, books and seminars to improve their games while neglecting an important piece of the puzzle. Hardware should not be neglected, and it is very important for making the big bucks from the comfort of your own home. <READMORE>

If you are multi-tabling, go and and get yourself a monitor with a resolution at least as high as 1600x1200 so that you can play 4 tables with no overlap. OfficeMax.com, BestBuy.com and Ebay are all good places to look, and you should be able to find one for less than $200. Make sure you get a flat screen monitor as well, they are much better for your eyes. The difference once you get a 1600x1200 monitor will be huge.

If you are spending lots of hours on the computer you also need to get your work area whipped into shape. Stop calling it your computer and start calling it your office and you won't feel so bad about spending a few dollars to make it comfortable. Call it a work expense. Get a comfortable chair, an optical mouse, and whatever else you need to play in comfort and avoid an unpleasant case of Carpal Tennel Syndrome.

While you are getting serious about your office, make sure your family or housemates understand that poker is a serious thing for you. If you have a kid on your lap, the dog wanting to go for a walk, and your wife is asking you what you want for dinner, you won't be concentrating on poker. The game is tough enough without giving away value because of distractions.

Once you are comfortable and happy in your "office" you can get down to business like you mean it and start worrying about how you're going to spend all the money you're making.

I'll see you at the final table,

Fox
