PocketFives caught up with one of newest Nevada pokercommunity members, Mike MrBeaumontCook (pictured). His recent series of online successes on WSOP.cominclude four first place wins, including three tickets to $1,500 events at the World Series of Poker this year at the Rio. Overall, Cook has cashed 22 times for over $15,000. Cook resides in Nevada with his wife, thepokerchic. They moved two years ago from Washington and, in his words, “love” being in Nevada.

PocketFives: Do you play on both Nevada sites? Do you have any preference?

Mike Cook: I definitely prefer WSOP.com. That site has better satellites to live events, better software, and they’ve been adding to their tournament schedule. Hand histories are nice too.

PocketFives: What do you attribute your current successes online to?

Mike Cook: Positivity, mental attitude, and making better decisions all the time, on and off the felt. I always remain upbeat no matter the swings. I’m appreciative of the success I’ve had, but I’m always striving to do better. One of the most important reasons for my success online: lucky shirts. They are very important!

PocketFives: What do you like best about playing online poker?

Mike Cook: There are so many things: the convenience, the ability to play lots of tables, and I can have my wife and dogs here with me. I can win low buy-in satellites to go play the WSOP. I can do all of this around my schedule in the comfort of my own home.

PocketFives: Do you have any plans to play at the Rio in the upcoming WSOP now that you have three $1,500 event tickets?

Mike Cook: At this point, I have won three $1,500 tickets and plan on winning more, as well as a Main Event seat. I’ve dedicated a lot of time out of my work schedule for live tournaments this summer. That’s what I will be doing. I’m looking forward to playing in the series, the Rio Deep Stacks, and some other tournaments around town.

PocketFives: How are you preparing for the mental and physical aspects of the live game?

Mike Cook: I am used to playing long sessions. I will be playing more live tournaments as the WSOP approaches. I am in a great place in life right now and feel I’m stronger than ever.
