When we first saw sldpkrplaying on WSOP.com in Nevada, we immediately thought it was short for “solid poker.” It turns out that was not the case, but Ronny Lin has been playing solid poker as of late. On back-to-back days last week, Lin outlasted the rest of the 163-player field in the 9:00pm $5 Rebuy on WSOP.com on Thursday and almost duplicated the feat by finishing second out of 158 players on Friday. He took home nearly $1,000 combined for those two scores. Shortly after that, we were able to catch up with Lin.

PocketFives: What does sldpkr mean and how did you come up with that screen name?

Ronny Lin: I first learned how to play poker when I was in Sugar Land, Texas. Friends I played with called me SLD, aka Sugar Land Donkey, and that’s how the screen name originated.

PocketFives: Do you ever play live games? If so, do you like live or online better? If you play live, where are your favorite places to play?

Ronny Lin: I enjoy playing online, but prefer live games. I often play at my favorite poker room: Aria Casino and Resort.

PocketFives: Do you play more tournaments or cash games and what are your regular limits?

Ronny Lin: I play more cash games ($1-$3, $2-$5) and started to play online tournaments last summer.

PocketFives: Where are you originally from and how long have you lived in Nevada?

Ronny Lin: I was born in Taiwan and used to live in Los Angeles, New York City, and Houston. I moved to Las Vegas in the summer of 2013.

PocketFives: What are your opinions of the state of online poker here in Nevada? What are your hopes for the future?

Ronny Lin: Hopefully, we can see PokerStars and other great online poker sites live in Nevada or the US. I’d also like to see more sit and go players, more tournament players, and more players in general in the future.
