When not hitting the felts on WSOP.comor Ultimate Pokerunder the user name blackeleven, this PocketFives member is driving out-of-town players to their live destinations as a cabbie. You can find him on Twitter as @blackelevenLV.

He has been playing poker online for 10 years and been a resident of Nevada since 2007. His method of improving and studying is to think about poker 24/7. Based on some of his results, that approach seems to be working. He has cashed on WSOP.com for over $12,000 since the site opened.

PocketFives: How or why did you start playing online poker?

blackeleven: I played quite a bit back in the day. Driving a taxi in Las Vegas is great. It allows me the time to watch Netflix and play World of Warcraft 60 hours a week. That is until the Nevada sites launched. I tried to hit Ultimate Poker hard right away and got rocked. Once WSOP launched, I put in $500, had some good luck, and won some tourneys.

PocketFives: Is there anyone who helped change how you approach the gameof poker?

blackeleven: Our approach to this wonderful thing called poker is always changing. Having watched countless PokerStars final table replays and donkaments on YouTube, I try to pick up things here and there. One thing I realize and keep forgetting is that it is okay to play super TAG.

With Nevada being cut off from the rest of the online poker world, we are a small group of players who battle each other all night every night online on our two sites we have. We have some great players on our sites; to have the opportunity to play against them each week is a great thrill and has helped my poker game get stronger. Playing with the same people all the time and seeing how they play, I want to elevate my tournament play to their standards and be more consistent.

PocketFives: How many hours per week do you devote to playing poker?

blackeleven: Sunday through Tuesday, you can find me playing online tournaments trying to hit that big score so I can continue driving my taxi with a great attitude. Thanks to the luck I’ve had online and my scaling back of gambling, life is comfortable. But, in the great scheme of things, it would be great to buy a home, get a pet, find that poker playing soul mate, and have good health.

PocketFives: How did you choose your player name?

blackeleven: For personal reasons, 11 is my number. As online players, we see some strange stuff. On a magical Vegas poker trip back in 2005, at roulette, I hit or saw that darn number 11 four times in a row and something like nine out of 13 times. Around that time on PokerStars, they had some type of identity/e-mail breach and allowed everyone on the list to change their screen name. Goodbye luckystar87 and hello blackeleven!

PocketFives: Do you play any live poker?

blackeleven: Currently, I do not play any live poker. I think live poker is great, but for the same reason I don’t go to the gym, or the store, or vacuum, or even take a shower, I guess I’m just too lazy to play. Every summer when I drive passengers from the Rio and hear them talk poker, I get excited enough to go play some live tournaments. Who knows, maybe 2014 will be the time to start crushing some live events and take home a bracelet for PocketFives!
