PocketFives had the opportunity to chat with Jeff jmd123Dobrin. He is no stranger to making final tables on a regular basis and has earned almost $40,000 to date on WSOP.com. Visit PocketFives’ Nevada poker community for the latest news and discussion from Nevada players.

PocketFives: How did you choose your screen name?

Jeff Dobrin: Dobie is the nickname that most of my poker playing friends know me by. I added the 88 part for luck. Turn the number 8 on its side and it becomes the symbol for infinity. There’s a certain symmetry to it.

PocketFives: What do you base your current successes online?

Jeff Dobrin: I’ve been voluming up, lately. Each spring, I refocus my efforts toward MTTs to sharpen my game in anticipation of the WSOP. After returning from a poker trip to LA a few weeks ago, I made a concerted effort to put in more volume on WSOP.com in MTTs and also in PLO cash. Playing more tournaments has produced some decent results. The addition of players from Delaware has also slightly increased the field sizes of tournaments, making them more attractive and profitable.

I also make time each week to study the game. It’s a constantly evolving challenge. And if you don’t keep up, you get left behind. In my view, combining volume with study is essential to cultivating and maintaining relevant online poker skills.

PocketFives: What do you like best about playing online poker?

Jeff Dobrin: I appreciate the convenient access to cash games that online poker provides. More cash games have been running since the addition of players from Delaware and due to last month’s points promotion. Perhaps the most attractive thing about playing on WSOP.com is the opportunity to play satellites to WSOP events.

PocketFives: What was your most memorable moment of 2014?

Jeff Dobrin: Coming off a successful spring on the WSOP Circuit in 2014, I dedicated my efforts in May towards maximizing my opportunities at the WSOP. I won a satellite to a High Roller Event online and then I shipped the event a week before the WSOP began. Additionally, I put a lot of effort into playing satellites online and won three seats. These satellite wins led to two top 50 finishes at the WSOP.

My most memorable moment of last year was running deep in the $3,000 Six-Handed NLHE event. I love the format and the enjoyed clashing with quality competition.

PocketFives: Do you have any special plans for poker in 2015?

Jeff Dobrin: I would love to spend a few weeks in Mexico this year and play on PokerStars during one of the major tournament series. I would also love to travel to Europe and play in an EPT main event. But, it’s hard to see past the WSOP, which looms large on the horizon, just a month away. I love this time of the year in Vegas. I feel fortunate that the greatest international poker festival of the year happens every year in my hometown. I am really excited for the amazing opportunities it provides.

PocketFives: Is there anything else you want to add?

Jeff Dobrin: I’m very thankful for the wonderful people that poker has introduced me to. I met my amazing girlfriend, the love of my life, in a poker room in Portland, Oregon. I’ve been lucky enough to make great friends along the way in Minneapolis, Portland, and here in Las Vegas. In fact, two of my good poker friends just got married this past weekend.
