PocketFives: Give us your thoughts and experiences of your poker journey.

Jerome Spencer: Honestly, the original reason I started playing online was because of my girlfriend at the time. She hated that I would kill hours and hours at the card room. I started playing online because I could still be at home with her and also play tournaments all day.

I played a lot on UltimateBet and I think it was because that was the first site I ever logged into. I also used to play on PokerStars. There was a ton of action on both. I like to play MTTs and PokerStars had so many people. I loved that you could win a large amount of money off of a smaller buy-in. The Sunday Million on Stars was fun; you could win life-changing money every Sunday off of a $200 buy-in.

PocketFives: To what do you attribute your current online success?

Jerome Spencer: I think the main thing is being real with yourself. You have to be able to analyze your own game, be honest with yourself, and find ways to continually get better and plug the leaks in your game. My friend Alex Nuschke helped me out a ton. He made me analyze every aspect of my game. He is also very honest, so if he sees something I’m not doing, he will jump on me and give me suggestions to correct it. I think having someone you can talk to about your game is key; it needs to be someone who is going to be honest with you and not let you off the hook when it comes to the mistakes you’re making.

I really feel like my game is right where it needs to be and I envision a lot more success in the upcoming year. You need to put in the time to get better or it’s never going to happen; in fact, you will get worse because the game is always changing. If you are in Nevada, I would suggest logging into WSOP.com. The cash in and cashout processes are very easy and the tournament structures are really good. They also have a lot of good cash game action.
