By day, Nevada’s Matthew Lounds (pictured) is a Promotions Host for Surrender Nightclub and Encore Beach Club. By night, he can be found playing under the user name mileycyrus on WSOP.comand Ultimate Poker, the two legal and regulated online poker rooms in Nevada. On PocketFives, he is known as Mollycyrus.

PocketFives: How long have you been playing online poker?

Matthew Lounds: Ten years off and on.

PocketFives: How or why did you start playing online poker?

Matthew Lounds: The dream of winning enough money to be set for life. Or, you could say Chris Moneymaker and the rubber-banded bricks of cash on ESPN.

PocketFives: To what do you attribute your current online success?

Matthew Lounds: Patience, balance in life, and only playing a few days a week. Being able to focus and being fully engaged in the game go along way. Also, I’m running good and most players on the new sites in Nevada aren’t very good.

PocketFives: Is there anyone who helped change how you approach the game of poker?

Matthew Lounds: There is an endless library of tools, books, and forums with helpful posts. It’d be impossible to say any singular figure changed the way I play. It’s the accumulation of knowledge from many sources and thousands of hands played.

PocketFives: How many hours a week to you devote to studying poker?

Matthew Lounds: Not enough. With work and real life obligations, I haven’t spent much time studying poker since joining Ultimate Poker in the last month. But, I look forward to the quick improvement I know will come with structured time devoted to improving.

PocketFives: How did you choose your online name, mileycyrus?

Matthew Lounds: I liked the idea of an annoying name. I think I read something from OMGClayAiken saying that was the reason he chose that name. I think everyone likes to be the player everyone is annoyed by at the table. Obviously, being annoying by outplaying and continuously beating your opponents is what we’re looking for, but I think the name has probably caused at least a few bad plays to be made against me.

PocketFives: What are some of your more memorable tournaments?

Matthew Lounds: All of the small WSOP tournaments, Venetian Deep Stack tournaments, and satellites I played in the summer of 2011 when I first moved to Vegas and lost all of my money I had made playing online.

I had just graduated college. I moved to Vegas with everything I had, completely ignored bankroll management, and just went for it. I didn’t care about anything but giving it a shot. I had heart, excitement, and the love of the game. It didn’t go my way, but who knows? If a few cards came out a different way, it could have been life-changing. I live in Vegas still, but have a real job that I love. I play part-time and mostly just for fun and for the sake of holding on to that dream of winning it all someday.

PocketFives: What is your favorite game to play?

Matthew Lounds: I like Mixed Games. I love all of the thinking that goes into them, but I am not that great at them yet.
