PocketFives: What are your favorite New Jersey online poker sites to play and why?

Jake Perry: I would have to say my favorite site at this point would have to WSOP. I can’t really argue with being up five-figures in the three or so weeks I have been seriously playing there. PartyPoker has a lot to offer, but I really don’t like their prize structures. They pay too many places and there really isn’t enough to fight for at the top. I play about six tournaments per week on Ultimate too. I love the overlays, but I’m not a fan of the software.

PocketFives: To what do you attribute your current online success?

Jake Perry: My internet success probably has the most to do with the amount of time I have put in on the tables over time, recognizing tendencies of other players and learning to utilize my stack against those tendencies. I have also had a lot of people to bounce hands off of over the years like James Weston, Rick Wagner, Bobby Oboodi, Casey Passmore, and Mike Lavenburg, just to name a few. More recently, I have been watching a lot of videos on Leggo and Run it Once.

PocketFives: Since the launch of regulated online poker in New Jersey, what has been your most memorable cash or win?

Jake Perry: The most memorable one was the first big one I had: a $7K ship in the $25K on WSOP. My plan was never to risk more then 1% of my original $5K deposit in any one MTT at any time because that was a very successful strategy for me pre-Black Friday. It never brought me any big score, but it also never put me under any unneeded pressure at any time. I saw the overlay, sold off a small portion of my action, and took a couple of shots. It turned out one of my first ones paid off in a big way.

PocketFives: How do you prepare yourself before a tournament?

Jake Perry: There’s not a ton of prep I do for the tournaments. If given the choice, I like to work out at one of the local rock gyms, come home, eat, and shower. Most importantly, I try to get enough sleep the night before, though that’s not the easiest thing to do at this point.

PocketFives: How did you get started in poker originally and why was it appealing?

Jake Perry: I started in pool and got dragged out to a $3/$6 Limit game. From there, late nights at the pool hall turned into late nights on the poker table when the pool halls closed. Those unfortunately turned into long nights at work until I figured out how to make enough money online were I didn’t have to go to work.
