PocketFives: What are your favorite New Jersey online poker sites to play and why?

Oliver Dent: So far, I’ve been pretty partial to 888 and WSOP.com. I really like their lobby layout and software. I was expecting much bigger things from Party/Borgata, but their software and payout structure leave a lot to be desired.

PocketFives: What got you started playing online poker?

Oliver Dent: Like many others, I had played Five Card Draw and Wild games with my high school friends growing up and always liked playing poker. Then, the Moneymaker boom happened. I got my first player-to-player transfer of $50 from a co-worker on PartyPoker in 2004. I think I ran through about 10 of those before I got really serious and decided to learn what “premium starting hands” were.

I read a few chapters in the popular books, but what helped me the most was scouring the internet for the latest information on sites like PocketFives. I have been playing for about 10 years now and credit a lot of my success to watching the PokerStars.tv replays of their biggest games and reading articles and threads on PocketFives.

PocketFives: Since the launch of regulated online poker in New Jersey, what has been your biggest cash to date?

Oliver Dent: I have punted a bunch of stacks in some big games already, but I have multiple four-figure cashes on WSOP.com. I really don’t like to brag because there’s always someone better than you. I know it’s not a lot of money, but I think my favorite accomplishment so far has to be taking down every 888 Deep Stack offered on one day.

PocketFives: To what do you attribute your current online success?

Oliver Dent: I have to say that a lot of my success comes from practice. Being a collegiate tennis player, nothing amounts to the practice you get from going out there and competing versus someone better than you. What sucks about poker is that sometimes practice costs you a lot of money. If you don’t learn from that practice session, then you’re bound to lose a lot of money.
