PocketFives had the chance to catch up with Chad Flushoff11 Dubik (pictured), a diehard Buffalo Bills fan and a New Jersey online poker grinder. Part of the Moneymaker boom, Dubik started with friendly home games and now plays every nightly guaranteed tournament offered on the regulated poker sites in the Garden State.

With over $25,000 in tracked online cashes, some of his notable accomplishments include a sixth place finish in the WSOPOC $250,000 Guarantee and three wins in the 888/WSOP $10,000 guarantee for a total of $21,067. PocketFives: Give us your thoughts and experiences of regulated online poker in New Jersey.

Chad Dubik: Let’s just say 2013 was an extremely long year constantly checking updates every day looking for any news regarding legalized online poker in New Jersey. The wait was worth it and I couldn’t be happier with all they have to offer. Whether it be the constant cash games at your convenience or the nightly guaranteed tournaments, the rest of the United States has reason to envy New Jersey.

PocketFives: When did you start playing poker and why was it appealing?

Chad Dubik: Like the majority of the poker world it seems, my beginning was soon after Moneymaker’s WSOP title. I loved the action in the game as a beginner and, of course, the chance at first place money. Most of the time we were playing $5 to $10 sit and gos that included more arguing then playing, but nonetheless it’s where I learned the game.

PocketFives: What are your favorite New Jersey online poker sites to play and why?

Chad Dubik: Currently I’m loving 888, as I’ve put together three wins on the nightly 10,000 Guarantee in the last two weeks for $9,000+ in cashes. Their rebuy structure allows me to find a rhythm with aggression knowing I have two hours to rebuy if I’m overly aggressive (it happens). I love the PartyPoker Sundays, especially during Borgata Poker Open months.

PocketFives: Since the launch of regulated online poker in New Jersey, what has been your most memorable cash or win?

Chad Dubik: I’d have to say placing sixth for $11,500 in the WSOP Poker Championship early in 2014. I endured the first leg of a three-day hangover during this tourney and I’m just happy I forced myself to play. I don’t do anything well hungover, so this one I’m very proud of.

PocketFives: Is there anyone or anything that helped change how you approach the game?

Chad Dubik: Nobody in particular, but if I were to give credit where it’s due I’d say it’s the poker community in general. With websites like PocketFives and other sources online, I’m able to read through other people’s trials and tribulations.

For instance, I was running bad and therefore playing bad for a few months earlier this year, so I took advice off of an article I read online. I self-excluded myself for a few weeks to get my head straight because I found myself “hunting” some of the players who put bad beats on me and over-playing a lot of the hands I was involved in with them. It turned out to be profitable advice.

Also, let me give a shout out to poker wives across the world and especially my wife Libby. You ladies have to deal with the mood swings and half-assed answers while we are playing, so having somebody on my side and in my corner is very helpful. It can go the other way too, but for the most part it’s positive.

PocketFives: What do you do away from poker? What else interests you?

Chad Dubik: I spend a lot of my time trying to solve the Buffalo Bills’ problems to no avail. They will win a Super Bowl if they find a QB within the next three years. I’m pretty good at golf and having a good time. I’m also a fan of the Buffalo Sabres and the World Series Champion San Francisco Giants (again). The Jets suck, so I don’t want to see any chatter in the chat box online regarding my Buffalo Bills!
