PocketFives: Congrats on your second place finish in the WSOP.com Online Championships Main Event. Tell us how you are feeling.

Dan Yoo: Like I was in college again. I had a flashback of the good old pre-Black Friday days of winning five-figures online and it felt even better doing it legally. I also railed my cousin Byung Yoo last Friday, who placed sixth for $16,000 in the opening event of Borgata’s Summer Open. He came over my house last Sunday to rail me the WSOPOC Main. It was a solid weekend for the Yoos.

PocketFives: Do any particular hands stick outduring your final table run?

Dan Yoo: I don’t remember particular hands, as I wasn’t in the most sober state. While I was hammering down a couple bottles, I remember reading the chat saying, “aznthug4lyf is a suckout king!” I was that guy getting rewarded for awful plays. I should’ve known that I have very little fold equity as aznthug4lyf.

PocketFives: What got you started playing online poker?

Dan Yoo: In college, my statistics professor at Carnegie Mellon introduced me to the mathematics of poker. As an Economics and Statistics major, I was hooked on this form of gambling that required some mathematical skills. He convinced me to read “Harrington on Hold’em” and test my luck on Full Tilt Poker.

After 10 deposits of $50, I never had to deposit again and was grinding $50 to $200 Six-Max Sit and Gos and Heads-Up Sit and Gos full-time after graduation on Absolute Poker. Needless to say, I lost a huge bankroll on Black Friday. I’ve been playing some live poker here and there, mostly at Borgata.

PocketFives: Is there anyone who helped change how you approach the game of poker?

Dan Yoo: I was very involved with a Starcraft community that had an interest in poker, LiquidPoker.net. Big names such as ElkYand Ryan Daut44 Daut (pictured) were very involved with hand analysis and even life tips such as tilt and bankroll management. I was constantly posting hands and asking questions on that site.

PocketFives: Do you plan on playing in the WSOPin Las Vegas?

Dan Yoo: Yes! I will most likely be playing the Main Event or at least a couple of side events next week, so if New Jersey grinders want to meet up, Tweet me at @danhyoo.
