Late last month, Scott Aggro SantosMargereson (pictured) took down the PokerStars Sunday Million outright and pocketed $194,000. There were almost 6,400 entrants and Margereson led the group of 990 who finished in the money. He is nearing $3 million in career online tournament winnings and told us, “It hasn’t really sunk in yet. I can’t believe how well I’ve run.”

Despite running well overall, that particular Sunday was a bloodbath prior to the Million. He told us, “I won just about every all-in from start to finish in the Million, but it was a pretty miserable Sunday overall, so I was one-tabling that for a long, long time.” It was his second largest tracked cash to date, trailing only a $244,000 WCOOP Sunday Warm-Up win last year.

Margereson won the Winamax Main Eventfor $22,000 the same week as he took down the Sunday Million and finished third in a $265 NLHE Knockout a few days ago for $13,000. “It’s nice to be getting some heat before SCOOP and the WSOP after what has been a pretty miserable start to the year,” he told us.

His recent surge has almost been surreal in a way, as the recent Sunday Million winner explained, “It all doesn’t seem that real, especially considering that while I’ve had all of these scores, MTTs haven’t been my main focus. I’m very fortunate for this to have happened.”

Cash games have been Margereson’s main focus since last August, but he has been playing tournaments on Sundays and also turning in a few midweek sessions to break up the grind. He usually plays $2/$4 and $5/$10 cash games and told us, “If I can get a seat in higher stakes games that are good, I play those also.”

It’s fitting that we’re writing about Margereson now, as he is #25 worldwide in the PocketFives Poker Rankings, his best showing ever. He is the fourth-ranked player in the UK and tops in the city of Chesterfield. “I’ve always been a big fan of games as a whole, whatever it may be, and I think when I discovered poker in a home game years ago I took to it right away.”

He started playing full-time when he was 18 and, accordingly, has not held down a full-time job. “Everyone was apprehensive at first, but that’s to be expected,” Margereson said of how his friends and family reacted to his decision to play poker for a living. “After time, people eventually realize everything is going to be okay.”

When we caught up with Margereson, he was camped out in Playa del Carmen, Mexico (pictured), many thousands of miles away from the UK. “There’s not much to do other than relax in the sun and then go out at night,” he joked. “I’m looking forward to a change of scenery when I go to Las Vegas for the WSOP and then go home to the UK for a while.”

By the way, Margereson was in Playa del Carmen for the first six months of 2014 and then went back to the UK. He kept a similar schedule this year, but headed to Mexico after the Aussie Millions and PCA.

Margereson has two WCOOP titles under his belt to go along with a Sunday Million victory, a Winamax W Series win, a Sunday Kickoff win, and several High Roller victories, just to name a few.

Congrats to Margereson on his big Sunday Million title!
