I have to admit, at the time it was way over my head. I'd browsed a few books at the bookstore and read some strategy online, but I was as new as they come while actually knowing what beats what. I'd played penny poker and dealer's choice games for years, but the world of poker theory and advanced strategy was as foreign to me as quantum string theory.
Standard what? Expected who? A few pages in and my head was spinning. The first time through I probably didn't catch much more than the hand rankings, and even that was much more nuanced than I had ever expected. After reading a few more basic books and a few months of playing experience with some of these new concepts in mind I returned to Hold'em Poker<span>
Sklansky and Malmuth are the foremost writers on gambling theory and their expertise comes together seamlessly in this book. They give in-depth coverage to such important concepts as positional play, the semi-bluff, earning a free card, odds and implied odds, short-handed play, inducing a bluff, reading your opponent, and much more! It is written primarily for an age where limit was king and some of the strategy is specific to casino limit games, but I assure you these time tested strategies will work in any game.
I do not recommend Hold'em Poker For Advanced Players<span>
