This could be one of the most epic November Nines ever, especially if the always-dangerous JC Tranmakes it. The longtime poker pro sent Fabian Ortiz packing in 17th place around 9:30pm Pacific Time on the World Series of Poker Main Event play down day and shot up to fourth on the leaderboard.

The hand was the 130th at the secondary feature table and, after both players checked the turn of a K-9-7-4 board, Ortiz shoved for 2.7 million, perhaps representing a flush, when a 6 came on the river to put three spades on board. Tran tanked before calling and showed 9-8 for a pair of nines. Ortiz could muster just A-Q for ace-high and Tran scooped the pot, scoring another elimination in poker’s most prestigious tournament.

Terrence Chan called Tran’s move “one hell of a call.” Brian Hastings responded back on Twitter by analyzing, “Good call, but man do I hate opponent’s bet size. Easier call for 2.7 than 1.1 IMO.”

Tran is a two-time bracelet winner and also has a WSOP Circuit ring. He is the youngest of eight children and wasn’t introduced to poker until his 21st birthday. He hails from Sacramento, California.
