Every Wednesday, the UB.com-sponsored poker news show “Poker2Nite” will air on Fox Sports Net at 11:00pm ET. Ultimately, its airtime varies on local sporting events and other factors, so check your local listings for more details. PokerRoad personalities Joe Sebok and Scott Huff bring the action from around the poker world to life once per week. PocketFives.com sat down with Sebok to recap the first episode, which hit television airwaves on November 18th, one week after the conclusion of the 2009 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event.

PocketFives.com: Congratulations on the successful debut of “Poker2Nite.” Tell us what the reaction was to your very first episode.
Sebok: Everyone is really happy. The reviews are all very positive and people want the show to do well. I think I was the weak link in the first show because I was nervous. One of the things I think people like is that I’m spontaneous, but that was all stripped away on the debut “Poker2Nite” episode. We’re going to take some steps to bring back the spontaneity. Huff did an amazing job. He showed up and knocked it out of the park.

PocketFives.com: How tough is it to balance adhering to network standards with providing an exciting television show?

Sebok: We’re so used to doing these radio shows, which are free-formed. We control them from top to bottom and get into the issues that we want to. “Poker2Nite” is a 30-minute show, so we have to hit our points and have to be succinct. It’s a new skill that we’re learning.

PocketFives.com: How have you been practicing to go in front of Fox Sports Net cameras?

Sebok: We practiced too much for the first week. I had all of these things in my head about what to hit and what to say. For the second week, we’re just going to go in more relaxed and let it rip.

PocketFives.com: Talk about your time slot.

Sebok: Our time slot is schizophrenic. Sometimes it’s 11:00pm and sometimes it’s 12:00 Midnight, so in that regard I like it. We can hit a lot of people. One drawback is that we’d be preempted for sporting events. The first week, a hockey game was on and we were sucked into that.

PocketFives.com: Talk about the involvement of Dana Workman.

Sebok: Dana is great. She’s definitely been around the block in the entertainment world and it’s our job to bring her up to speed on the poker world. She has to understand the humorous side of people in the poker world, so if she’s making a joke, she has to deliver it.

PocketFives.com: Where did the idea for Workman’s segment come from?

Sebok: I think a lot of it was borne out of “Poker Weekly Update,” which was the spoof news show that we did with PokerRoad. That’s how we want to tell the news. We want to bring people into our little world and give them our insider take. We make fun of each other and other people and we felt like that had a place in “Poker2Nite.”

PocketFives.com: Give us a rundown of your second show for those who haven’t had a chance to check it out.

Sebok: We’ll be talking about Isildur1 and gambling at those ridiculous stakes. We’re going to cover Annie Duke’s charity event and the Thanksgiving weekend events. We’re going to have Andy Bloch on, who won Duke’s charity event. We’re also covering Brandon Cantu getting tazed and we’re going to put the footage up on national television.

PocketFives.com: Finally, discuss bringing ESPN WSOP announcer Lon McEachern (pictured at right) on as “Poker2Nite’s” first guest.

Sebok: The WSOP had just ended and we want to do something different. We wanted to get Lon McEachern and Norman Chad, but Norman couldn’t do it. We wanted to cover the WSOP Main Event in a different way. Everyone wants to talk to the players, but Lon has been around since the beginning of the evolution of poker. We felt like it was a different take and he did a phenomenal job.
