The finale of the Aussie Millions AUD $100,000 Challenge in Melbourne saw two PocketFivers duke it out: Yevgeniy Jovial GentTimoshenko (pictured) and Mike timex McDonald. In the end, the former prevailed, adding to a poker resume that already includes an APPT Macau event win in 2008 for $500,000, a $2.1 million haul in the WPT Championship one year later, and a 22nd place finish in last year’s WSOP Main Event for nearly $300,000.

Timoshenko crippled longtime poker pro Erik Seidel three-handed in the Australian poker tournament. Timoshenko 4bet all-in before the flop with tens and was up against the A-Q suited of Seidel for a race. Seidel took the lead when an ace and a queen hit on the flop, but Timoshenko found a ten on the turn to pull ahead for good.

Timoshenko and McDonald were nearly deadlocked when heads-up play began, but Timoshenko doubled through after calling all-in on the river of a board of 9-2-5-A-7 with three spades. Timoshenko showed J-7 of the suit for a flush, besting McDonald’s top pair.

On the final hand of the Aussie Millions AUD $100,000 Challenge, McDonald called a 4bet all-in before the flop and flipped over 10-7 of hearts, while Timoshenko had K-Q. The latter faded a straight draw on the river to take down the top prize. He posted on Twitter on February 8, “Note to self: Play more poker on your birthday.” Perhaps that’s the secret.

Here’s how the final table cashed out. All prizes are listed in Australian Dollars:

1. Yevgeniy Jovial Gent Timoshenko – $2,000,000
2. Mike timex McDonald (pictured) – $1,500,000
3. Erik Seidel – $1,076,000

6. Daniel Negreanu – $550,000
7. David Steicke – $450,000

We should leave you with a few stats about Daniel Negreanu. The PokerStars pro has three live cashes of at least $350,000 since September, including a nearly $1 million jackpot for winning the WSOP Europe High Roller event. Negreanu is tops in the ESPN poker rankings dubbed The Nuts.
