We have interviewed several players here on PocketFives who have won the Winamax High Roller. The most recent among them: Prague’s pappadogg (pictured), who took it down for $13,000. He’s primarily a cash game player, but has had a considerable amount of success in the tournament world as well, amassing $1.5 million in cashes in his PocketFives profile. We sat down with the sport fanatic to get the inside dish on his latest Sunday win.

PocketFives: Nice job winning the Winamax High Roller. Tell us how you’re feeling about it.

pappadogg: This tournament has been pretty good to me. I have been doing really well in it and on Winamax in general. It is like the fifth time I have won the High Roller, so it definitely feels good, especially since I could not get much else going that Sunday and it was a nice day-saver.

PocketFives: What about the site or tournament has led to you doing so well?

pappadogg: I am definitely running pretty well, but the opposition is also quite a bit weaker on the dot-fr sites. Also, the tournaments on Winamax have really good structures with big starting stacks. Most of them are six-max, which favors me coming from a cash game background.

PocketFives: Do you still play a lot of cash games?

pappadogg: Cash games are still my main game. I recently transitioned from No Limit Six-Max to PLO as my main game. I usually play MTTs once or twice a week, usually on Sundays and Tuesdays.

PocketFives: What stakes are you playing in cash games and why did you move to PLO?

pappadogg: I play mid and high stakes from $2/$4 to $10/$20 on various sites. No Limit cash is drying up a little bit at $5/$10+, so I figured it would be good to have some more options for the future. I also think there is more money to be made in PLO with recreational players making bigger mistakes than in No Limit. Also, the win rates are higher for the good regs in general.

PocketFives: How did you get started in poker? Why was it appealing?

pappadogg: I got started pretty early when I was 14. I started out playing with friends in home games after seeing poker on TV and eventually started playing online. I am pretty competitive and was always into different forms of games and sports and I got hooked on it. I liked the competitive side of it, trying to get better than other people.

PocketFives: Your PocketFives profile says you’re from Prague (pictured), but you’re in Germanynow?

pappadogg: At the moment, I am in Hamburg, Germany where I’m staying with my girlfriend, but my main residence for the last couple of months has been Prague. I travel back and forth quite a bit, but spend most of my time in the Czech Republic. Prague is a really nice city that has a lot to offer and it’s also pretty cheap.

PocketFives: What else do you do besides poker?

pappadogg: I am really into sports, especially football. My roommate and I recently started kickboxing in Prague, which we really like. I try to get in some form of sports almost every day. Otherwise, I enjoy traveling and seeing new places.
