Austria’s Maximilian Senft went very deep in the 2014 World Series of Poker Main Event, entering Day 7 in 20th place out of 29 players with about 3.9 million chips and ultimately landing in 11th place, two away from the 2014 WSOP November Nine, for $565,000.

If you live outside Austria, you may not have heard of this player since the 2014 World Series of Poker Main Event is only the second time Senft has recorded a cash in any WSOP event. The first time was a warm-up going into the 2014 Main Event when he took 136th place in a $1,500 No Limit Hold’em event on July 1 for $3,460.

Senft has recorded almost $210,000 career cashes heading into the Main Event, with just about all of them occurring in Europe. In April 2012, Senft took seventh place for over $49,000 in the €3,500 World Poker Tour Main Event at the Montesino Pokertainment Centre in Vienna, Austria.

Senft’s first major live poker tournament win came in March 2013 when he dominated 220 other players in the GCOP III €1,100 No Limit Hold’em Main Event at the Kings Casino in the Czech Republic for over $67,000.

A month later, Senft finished in third place in the EPT Berlin €1,100 Limit Hold’em Turbo Six-Handed side event for over $25,000.

In September 2013, Senft found himself finishing in 30th place in the €5,300 EPT Barcelona Main Event for over $33,000.

A key hand on Day 6 of the WSOP Main Event for Senft occurred with the blinds at 50,000/100,000. Brazilian Bruno Politano opened the action from the hijack for 250,000 in chips. Senft 3bet all-in his remaining 1.695 million in chips with a pocket pair, which American Matthew Haugen called with Ac-Qd from the button. The blinds and Politano both folded, setting up a heads-up coin flip. Senft’s hand held and he stayed alive, more than doubling his chip stack to close to 3.9 million chips when the board came 2s-8d-5d-9h-Tc.
