Hand histories on partypoker are going to look a lot different after October 5.

Beginning on October 5, cash game hand histories on partypoker will be anonymized. Hand histories will still be available for players to download, but they won’t have their opponents’ screen names attached to the hand.

Players on partypoker will see their screen name in front of their hole cards, but their opponents will just be assigned a number. These changes are the second wave of changes for partypoker in the last year.

The first phase came at the end of 2015 and saw cash game players joining a room-wide waiting list instead of a table waiting list. Players were randomly seated at the next available cash game as opposed to “bum hunting” specific players on the site.

The new changes don’t affect any in-game play or how they track their own play and win-rate, but will affect gathering data and tendencies of opponents.

Group Head of partypoker Tom Walters feels that these new changes continue to improve the site and level out the playing field between amateurs and pros.

“It’s important for us to provide all poker players with a fair and ethical product whilst still allowing them to learn and improve,” said Walters in a partypoker blog post. “We want partypoker to offer a level playing field that allows players of all abilities to compete fairly.”

Partypoker took feedback from players across their various social media platforms, poker forums, and through their customer support team to come up with these changes.

“We have listened to feedback from the poker community and believe that allowing players to continue to view their own his own hand histories is important for their personal game development,” said Walters. “Anonymizing hand histories will help prevent data mining and therefore protect both the professional and recreational player and improve the overall ecology on partypoker which is imperative for the long term future of the game.”

The anonymization of hand histories is the big change for players on the site, but not the only one being implemented.

Once these changes take effect, players will be allowed to make a one-time screen name change. This change will effectively give players a clean slate since all of the future hand histories will be anonymous and they can erase all previous history with their opponents.

The terms and conditions will change to prohibit the use of seating scripts. Players that are caught using this software will receive a warning before being banned from the site entirely.

These changes will only be implemented in cash games. Tournaments on partypoker will experience no change in their day-to-day operations. For more information, visit the partypoker blog.
