On Monday night, the Main Event of the 2008 PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker drew to a close. A win by ckingusc meant that PocketFivers banked another $1.2 million from final tables in the world’s largest online tournament series. All told, PocketFivers won 13 of the 33 events of the WCOOP, taking home $9.8 million, about one-third of the overall guaranteed prize pool of $30 million. The past two weeks have seen PocketFivers vault into the poker spotlight, winning 40% of the tournaments offered. Let’s head to the virtual felts of PokerStars and relive the previous two weeks one last time.

In Event #3 of the 2008 WCOOP, _cwp394_ took down the $215 Limit Holdem tournament, besting a field of 2,258 entrants en route to a $73,385 payday. The New York native added another $7,100 to his bankroll by finishing third in the $162 buy-in $75K Weekly Tournament on Absolute Poker a few days later. Other PocketFivers who reached the final table of Event #3 included number1pen and lucky_aces08. The trio combined for over $130,000 in total earnings.

PocketFivers went 1-2-3-4-5 in Event #5, a $10,300 buy-in No Limit Hold’em tournament. At the end of the day, dorinvandy stood above the rest of the 321 player field, taking home $617,925 and defeating DuckU heads up. The runner up pocketed $459,030. In third place was number1pen, who made his second final table of the 2008 WCOOP, adding another $337,050 to his bankroll. Choron finished fourth for $256,800 and gbmantis landed in fifth, cashing for $179,760.

There was something good happening in Event 9, as PocketFiver SomethingGood barreled through a field of 3,290 entrants en route to a $95,410 payday. He was one of two Norwegian PocketFivers to make the final table that night; IFoldToAPush finished third and cashed for $36,190. The tournament guaranteed a prize pool of $400,000 and the actual prize pool swelled to $658,000.

Fresh off a win in the $150 buy-in, $65,000 Guarantee on Full Tilt Poker earlier in the month, Randers took down the $320 Mixed Holdem Six-Handed tournament, Event #12, for $73,603. Heads-up, he battled against fellow PocketFiver gotcha55, a.k.a. Aaron Kanter. The fourth place finisher in the 2005 World Series of Poker Main Event, Kanter banked $53,856 from his WCOOP showing. Also at the final table of Event #12 was jibbinghippo, who finished sixth.

In the $215 rebuy No Limit Hold’em tournament, Event #13, ankstrajks brought home $207,773 for the win. The Swedish native also finished second in the PokerStars Sunday Warm-Up at the end of August. He’s also logged multiple wins in the $100 rebuy on PokerStars. Many players answer “Menlo” when asked who the top online poker player is; he’s the same man who plays as WestmenloAA on Stars.

In the largest buy-in event held as part of the 2008 WCOOP, the $25,000 buy-in High Roller Heads-Up event culminated in a battle of PocketFivers, as stevesbets dueled with 2008 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure winner and PokerStars pro ElkY. In the end, stevesbets reeled in the shark, cashing for $560,000. ElkY pocketed $320,000 for second. The $1.6 million guaranteed tournament paid out to the final eight contestants remaining in this unique tournament.
