PocketFivers React to Leaked 2010 WSOP Schedule[ return to main articles page ]

Recently, a leaked draft 2010 World Series of Poker (WSOP) scheduled appeared in a thread in Poker Discussion on PocketFives.com, compiled from a post on TwoPlusTwo. In it, a 57-event series was outlined, highlighted by a total of eight $1,000 buy-in tournaments, including the perennial Seniors’ and Ladies’ Championships. Also appearing was a $50,000 buy-in Player’s World Championship, which replaces the high-stakes HORSE event. Instead, a $10,000 buy-in HORSE Championship will play out.

During the 2009 WSOP, PocketFivers took home a record-setting 11 bracelets and a healthy $38 million, capped off by Joe jcada99 Cada (pictured at left) taking down the $10,000 buy-in Main Event for $8.5 million. Seven PocketFivers appeared in the top 18 spots on the Main Event leaderboard after 6,494 players took to the felts. Cada became its youngest winner ever and bested Darvin Moon heads-up inside the Rio’s Penn and Teller Theater.
One new tournament on the alleged docket is a $25,000 buy-in No Limit Hold’em Six-Max contest, a high-stakes, face-paced event that would likely be filmed for television. Members of PocketFives.com discussed the addition, with normlfella commenting, “$25k 6max sounds badass.” AUSteweyOX gave the community his thoughts on the proposed slate of events, which kicks off on May 28th: “this schedule is the best ive seen maybe ever. i like the addition of the players championship and the HORSE being 10k this time around. something for everyone and well timed start to the ME. great job.”

What the Player’s Championship would entail is not yet known, but PocketFivers have speculated that it would include seven to eight games, expanding on the HORSE Championship concept, which viewers have previously seen unfold on ESPN. CalBandGreat guessed, “Probably either 7 or 8 game (Horse+PLO and NLH and maybe triple draw) until the final table and then NLH for the whole final table so that they can show it on TV.” In 2009, the WSOP Champions Invitational played out on ESPN, a winner-take-all tournament that saw 20 former Main Event winners take to the felts. In the end, 1983 champ Tom McEvoy (pictured at right) emerged victorious from the field.

Although many tournaments were given as lasting two days, one was slated to run for 149 days, meaning that the allotted time for each event may change dramatically. In any event, here is the draft 2010 WSOP schedule that appeared on PocketFives.com. Harrah’s has given no official word on its legitimacy:
