PocketFives Blogs Update[ return to main articles page ]

A poker blog can be useful for many reasons. Some use it as a coaching or learning tool. Others use it for visibility. And many use it as a way to alleviate tilt. The main idea is that you can do whatever you want with it in order to help develop your poker career.

Several of the world's best poker players keep a regular blog, many of which can be found here at PocketFives. We've taken a long look through hundreds of them and created a list of some of the best and most popular recent Blogs on the site:

John crackerball9 Reynolds has been one of the most active bloggers on PocketFives of late, providing readers with his tales from on and off the felt on an almost-daily basis. Reynolds, ranked 625th on the PocketFives World Wide Rankings through Friday, has more than $300,000 in online tournament earnings. Here's an excerpt from one of his blogs from February:

"I also have a few small mental tricks I use that I taught myself while playing pool for a living 1995-2005. If I find myself in a rough moment I think to myself how would I want to act if the ten most important people in my life were watching, then I act accordingly. Obviously they are not there so it takes will power, but these type of thoughts can definitely stop you from throwing a mouse or punching a monitor." http://www.pocketfives.com/blogs/cracker9ball/

Francis The Lab Rat Anderson is one of PocketFives' most valued members as he is always eager to speak his mind and provide insight into all aspects of online poker. Anderson recently cracked the site's Top 100 with the help of some massive scores. He broke down his accomplishments and provided addition advice for readers during a blog post last week:

"Two main things I want people to take from reading this blog. First being, guys be smart with your money. You may feel on top of the world after hitting your biggest score ever or you're on a sick heater and feel as if the upswing will happen forever but there is just so much variance in this game of poker. Just continue to be wise with your money and don't blow it or take too many high stake gambles. Save your money." http://www.pocketfives.com/blogs/the-lab-rat/

Adam Goldenad Kott is a rising star in the poker world and a coach at Premier Poker Coaching. Kott is approaching $250,000 in career online earnings, all while handling a full college workload. He had a very successful January and discussed it in his blog titled "2011" on March 3rd:

"Finally, after getting out of makeup my backers and I decided to part ways. This was a mutual decision that we’d been leaning towards for awhile. For them, having a horse who could only play once or twice a week, mostly on Sundays (because of commitments to grad school), didn’t represent the best investment possible. Likewise, I grew tired of giving up half my profits, mostly earned from my bread & butter midstakes, just so I could take a few shots every Sunday at the higher buyins." http://www.pocketfives.com/blogs/goldenad/

Tristan Cre8ive Wade is a long-time online tournament player and well-respected teacher at DeepStacks.com. Wade has accrued more than $1.3 million in online earnings, and while he's shifted more of his efforts toward coaching of late, he managed to reach five final tables in the span of four days in early January. Wade also spends a good amount of time traveling the tournament circuit. Here's an excerpt from one of his latest blogs:

"There is actually a funny story about me going to the Bahamas. This afternoon I got a text message from one of my buddies, Jeff. I don't talk to him too often. He is a professional poker player as well. We hang out when we are in the same city and are good friends, we just don't talk that much otherwise. He sent me a text that read "Had a dream me you FT of Bahamas Main. I don't know, don't ask.' Haha. It was pretty random like I said. He's not one of my friends I talk to on a daily basis or that often, so it is weird he is dreaming about me. That's why Jeff made the comment at the end saying "I don't know, don't ask." How could I not go after receiving that text?" http://www.pocketfives.com/blogs/cre8ive/

With 181 total entries, Steven dtools22 DiTullio is the most active blogger on PocketFives. He might not be a well-known player, but DiTullio is well-versed in the game and his passion for it pours through each of his blogs. DiTullio recently wrote about avoiding the urge to berate opponents:

"OK, we've all probably done this at some point. Hell I still berate bad players today, but I don't type it in the chat box when playing online and I'll never do it at the table when playing live. It helps to get things out of your system and keeps me personally from breaking my mouse, cell phone, or anything else that's nearby and could realistically be flung across a room and into a wall. That being said I think there is a common decency that needs to be upheld at the poker table. Just because you think someone is a moron, doesn't mean you get to say that to them." http://www.pocketfives.com/blogs/dtools22/

  1. Cool article. Blogging is fun for me and another way to teach myself structure and dedication. I blog everyday and find it important to myself to stick with it. Some of my blogs are simply a small breakdown of my day, but several are a lot more. GL TO ALL!

  2. Its funny how so many of my early blogs were of badbeats and tilting. I still get badbeat and still tilt fwiw, but I've made huge improvements in dealing with them.

I actually thought informing a player that they're ratarted was doing them a favor so they would know to go seek medical assistance. :)

I keed. Nowdays, I almost never flame a player unless provoked.
