This evening, the New Orleans Saints will take on the Indianapolis Colts in Super Bowl XLIV. The annual festivities will play out in Miami this year, with kickoff coming at 6:25pm ET from Dolphin Stadium on Sunday. For many in the online poker community, Super Bowl Sunday marks a respite from the virtual felts in favor of food, friends, and football. PocketFives.com Christopher StoneColdNz Snyder started a thread in Poker Discussion by comparing online poker room traffic on holidays: “In the past few years Super Bowl Sunday is the second best Sunday of the year for MTTs. Mother's Day always has the biggest & most overlays in MTTs. I am saying screw the Super Bowl and playing MTTs all day rather than my normal ring games.”
For Wisconsin PocketFives.com member time4badbeat, Sunday not only marks the 44th running of football’s biggest game, but also another special milestone: “I think I'm going to grind this Sunday as well since it's my birthday and I have to ship something huge right?” Meanwhile, Mike Gags30 Gagliano (pictured at left) told PocketFives.com that he won’t be putting in a full schedule this weekend: “I’m most likely not going to grind the full schedule like I usually do. I’ll probably just play a few majors on my laptop and watch the game with some friends.” Gagliano, a New York Jets fan, told PocketFives.com that he detests the Colts and would consequently be pulling for the Drew Brees-led Saints.Dan djk123 Kelly revealed that he had yet to make any plans for the Super Bowl and would likely be putting in a full schedule instead. Kelly, after all, has to maintain his stellar PLB score as part of the Online Poker Rankings, where he sits at number three worldwide. By the way, Kelly will be rooting for the Saints in the big game.
The current top ranked player in the world at online tournament play, David Doc Sands Sands (pictured at right), may make last-minute plans to head to Miami. He told PocketFives.com, “I’m either going to the game or playing as normal online, muting player and observer chat for the whole day and watching the Super Bowl at night after I’m done. That’s what I usually do on Sundays during football season. If the Vikings had made it to the Super Bowl, I was going for sure.” Sands will Tivo the game, muting the chat so that no one ruins the outcome for him.
Over in the United Kingdom, DoylesRoom Brunson 10 member Chris moorman1 Moorman (pictured at left) explained that it’d be business as usual for him. Moorman affectionately explained, “In the U.K., we prefer real football.” When asked what sporting event, if any, would cause him to take a one-day absence from the virtual felts, Moorman told PocketFives.com, “If England made the final of the World Cup, that’s probably it.” Moorman sits at number two worldwide in the Rankings behind Sands.In the lively thread in Poker Discussion, PocketFives.com member Mike Kowal, who hails from Ohio, explained, “If I even thought for 1 second of not hanging out w/ my friends and watching such a sick superbowl and playing tourneys instead, I'd run even worse.” Despite Kowal’s stance, online poker sites like Full Tilt, UB.com, and Absolute Poker appear to be operating as normal on Sunday. Full Tilt representative ftpdoug told PocketFives.com that guarantees for the site’s major tournaments will remain the same. In addition, no changes to the schedule are planned on UB.com and Absolute Poker.
