The ultimate buffet of tournament poker otherwise known as the summer months of June and July are now in the books with the World Series of Poker all but complete and this year’s episodes already starting to run on ESPN. The World Poker Tour’s July stop at the Bellagio finished up right as the November 9 was being set. Alexandre allingomes Gomes (pictured) was able to defeat Faraz The-Toilet Jaka in heads up play to take Bellagio Cup V title and the almost $1.2 million first prize.

Gomes and Jake will likely be returning to WPT action soon with the next WPT stop coming up in Los Angeles at the Bicycle Casino beginning Saturday. The first day of action is Saturday, August 21st and the final table will be played out on Wednesday, the 26th.

The new Event Center at the Bike opened on July 29th of this year just in time for the Legends of Poker series, which had a slate of preliminary events and will culminate with the televised WPT Main Event. Tournaments in Los Angeles have a large player pool to draw from and with the renovations at the Bike hopes are high for a solid field size this year. The 2008 Legends of Poker drew 373 players with John Phan emerging victorious after overcoming Amit amak316 Makhija (pictured) in heads up play. The win was worth just under $1.1 million for Phan and Makhija picked up over $560,000 for second.

The final table of six was laden with tough players including Zachary CrazyZachary Clark (3rd - $281,645), Paul uclabruinz Smith (4th - $246,450) and Kyle Wilson (6th - $176,035). Marco CrazyMarco Johnson and Ben bfineman Fineman were also among the PocketFivers making the money, finishing in 20th and 27th place respectively and both earning the $21,125 payout.

In 2007 Dan Harrington came out on top of the 485 player field and in 2006 Joe Pelton was the best of the 466 entrants that year at the first World Poker Tour tournament covered by PocketFivesLive.

The 2009 Legends of Poker will mark the fourth consecutive year that PocketFivesLive has traveled to Los Angeles to cover the tournament and anyone playing in the Legends of Poker main event this year can register for coverage on PocketFivesLive.com by clicking the Let Us Cover You link on the left side of the P5sLive homepage.
