Starting on Saturday, May 19, PocketFivesLive.com, which provides live coverage of online players in the biggest live tournaments, is on location in beautiful Las Vegas, Nevada, for the Mirage Poker Showdown. The tournament marks the first stop on Season Six of the World Poker Tour, which will air on Monday nights on GSN starting in early 2008. A number of PocketFivers are expected to attend what will be one of the last major live tournaments before the 2007 World Series of Poker. The final table of the $10,000 buy in Mirage Poker Showdown will take place on Wednesday, May 23. Stan Weiss, a ticket broker from Nashville, Tennessee, defeated poker pro Harry Demetriou and cashed for nearly $1.3 million in Season Five at the Mirage. PocketFiver Devin “TranquilChaos” Porter made the final table of that event, along with Robert Mizrachi, David Williams, and Steve Frederick. In Season Four, prop bet extraordinaire Gavin Smith beat Ted Forrest and took home just over $1.1 million. Eli Elezra won the inaugural Mirage Poker Showdown in Season Three, taking down up-and-coming pro Lee Watkinson for around $1 million. In addition to what should be a record prize pool in Season Six, the champion will also take home a $25,000 seat in the World Poker Tour Championship next April.
Last season of the WPT marked the debut of PocketFivesLive.com, managed by Tournament Reporter Court Harrington, and also saw the success of many PocketFivers in live events. Ryan “Daut44” Daut (pictured at left) won the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure in January. Mike “swiper_fox” Perry finished sixth at Foxwoods and Paul “kwickfish” Wasicka final tabled the L.A. Poker Classic in March. David “nutstr84444” Redlin won a quarter of a million dollars at the Bellagio Five Diamond World Poker Classic and Scott “emptyseat88” Fischman capped off Season Five by taking eighth at the WPT Championship last month. The live tournament regulars – Jon “pokertrip” Friedberg, Kevin "BeL0WaB0Ve" Saul, and Pete “TheBeat” Giordano, among others – continued to make a name for themselves across the poker world.
Harrington (pictured at right) explains the impact PocketFivesLive.com has had over the past year: “In less than one year of coverage, PocketFivesLive has built a reputation in the tournament coverage world and is now considered among the major sources for tournament information. With the focus being on online players in live tournaments, it has established a niche in the market that has been well-received. It has also brought to light the quality of players that are coming out of the online realm as well as shown how the line between online players and live players is becoming more and more blurred.”Stay tuned to PocketFivesLive.com for more information.
