The sunburns from the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Championship event have worn off, but don’t worry, the next island PokerStars Championship Series (PCS) is just a month away.

The next stop for PCS is the island of Panamafrom March 10-20 for a 46-event poker series at the Sortis Hotel, Spa, and Casino in Panama City, Panama.

After feedback from players, PokerStars trimmed the number of events from 56 to 46, added a re-entry element to some of the bigger side events, and added several guarantees, including a $400,000 tally on the $1,100 buy-in PokerStars National Championship. That event runs from March 11-14 with three starting flights.

The Main Event, which is a $5,300 buy-in event with two starting flights, gets underway on March 14 and plays down to a winner on March 19.

The side events being reduced may sound bad, but it is actually a sensible decision after the Bahamas series saw several events canceled or poorly attended because there were simply too many options to choose from.

“PokerStars is always reviewing player feedback to see how we can improve the experience for players at our live events, and some of the feedback over the last few events has involved field sizes and lower buy-in events,”Head of Live Poker Operations Neil Johnson told the PokerStars Blog. “With that in mind, we’ve taken a long look at the upcoming PokerStars Championship in Panama to see what changes we may want to make.”

There are still plenty of fun options for Panama attendees. Here are some highlights from the side event schedule:

$50,000 Super High Roller (March 11-13) – This three-day tournament should draw the same kind of big names from the High Roller circuit that came to Atlantis to play in January. The PCA version of this event drew 54 entries, but featured a $100,000 buy-in. That tournament was won by Jason Koon. Another interesting aspect of this tournament is the inclusion of a 30-second shot clock.

$10,300 Single Re-entry High Roller (March 18-20) – There is a lower stakes high roller on this schedule as well. The three-day tournament includes a single re-entry.

$10,300 Pot Limit Omaha (March 17) – Those seeking a warm-up to the High Roller can play the High Roller PLO event. This is another tournament with a single re-entry. It is scheduled to play out in a single day.

$440 PokerStars Cup (March 16-19) – This $440 buy-in event has three evening starting flights on March 16-18, then plays down to a winner on March 19. The event has a $150,000 guarantee.

$220 PokerStars Open (March 12-14)– This series really does offer something for every price point. Those with a limited bankroll can get a big bang for their buck in this $50,000 guaranteed event which features three starting flights and unlimited re-entries.

The schedule also includes a couple of higher buy-in hyper turbo events, a Win the Button tournament, and several PLO events at a range of buy-ins. Be warned mixed games enthusiasts, this series does only offer flop games. The full schedule of events is available on PokerStars’ website.

With the shift away from separate tours and into a single, international PCS, the Latin American Poker Tour (LAPT)wrapped up its ninth season last year. The Panama stop was added to the tour in Season 5 when none other than PokerStars Pro Leo Fernandez of Argentina won the Main Event for $171,930. Over the years, the LAPT hosted 41 different series under the banner all over Central and South America.

Fernandez and fellow countrymanJose Ignacio Barbero have been the kings of the LAPT with Barbero holding the records for both money earned ($917,510) and cashes (15). Fernandez is right behind him on the cashes list with 14.
