PokerTracker Part 3 - PAHUD and Skins [ return to main articles page ]
Now that you can import hands you'll need to learn how to display them on your table. I use a "skin" for Party Poker which removes the charis, avatars, dealer and pretty much everything else, leaving me with a flat green area that has each player's name box and their stats and nothing else to clutter up the screen. The skin I use comes from our site at www.pokerfox.net, but there are similar skins available to the public at www.chiplitre.com. I use a skin similar to the "green felt" skin on chiplitre.
Using a very simple skin allows you to display a large number of stats and read them quickly and easily without a terribly cluttered table.
<readmore> Your next step is to go to www.pokeracesoftware.com and download PAHUD. PAHUD is a free add-on for Pokertracker that displays all of your opponents stats and can be customised to display them in any way that you like. The stats that I choose to display are VP$IP, PFR%, TAF, and W$SD%. At a 6max table I display a few more stats including FB (fold blind to steal) and AS (attempt to steal). On all tables I also display the number of hands I have logged on someone. If you get PAHUD and click on layout manager you will see that you can display the stats any place you like and the layout manager is a very simple interface. There is also a tutorial on the pokeracesoftware web site that will help you out with using the software.
All you UB and PokerShare players will love PAHUd because it also acts as a hand history importer and will get you the last X number of hands that have been played at that table. It's a wonderful thing to sit down at a table and immediately have the last 50 hands that were played fed into Pokertracker even though you didn't have the table open. This feature of PAHUD eliminates the need for the ultimatehistory program that they recommend on the PT web site.
Once you get the stats displayed in a way that you like you'll be ready to start reading them and understanding what they mean. We will be covering that information sometime in the next week or two.
As for this week in my life, it couldn't get much better. It was a good week at the tables online, and I had a piece of my business partner Hatfield who won $21,000 in a live tournament at the local cardroom last night. Congrats to Hatfield on the big win. I'll also be playing in the $1,000 buy-in event tomorrow at at the Canterbury Park Fall Poker Classic so wish me luck. Any of you who are in town for the big event shoot me an email tonight and we'll meet up tomorrow for a drink at the card club.
I'll see you at the final table,
Fox
