WSOP Attendance Up 25% in 2015 to 103,512

Due in part to the Colossus, a $565 buy-in tournament that fetched a field of 22,374 entrants, attendance at the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas was up 25% to 103,512 this year. That number represents a new all-time high for the annual tournament series.

The World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) returns to PokerStars September 6 to 27 for its 14th edition. Game On: GVC Bids $1.6 Billion for bwin.party

Staring at a Screen for 14 Hours: "It Doesn't Happen that Often"

In the middle of February, the 888 Poker Mega Deep pulled in 829 entrants and offered up a prize pool of $165,000. The money made a 14-hour tournament much more palatable to Polish PocketFiver aimazing (pictured), who told us, "I'm feeling awesome. It's my biggest score ever. However, I felt a little bit disappointed since I lost heads-up to a recreational player." He took second for $22,000.

Tournament Review for April 13, 2015

The biggest winner in online tournaments this past weekend was Canada's HAHALIVEPROS, who took home $183,000 for finishing on top of a heads-up deal in the PokerStars Sunday Million. Russia's Andrey aangierr Pateychuk also had a big payday in this tournament, winning $54,340 after a fifth place finish.

New Jersey Weekend Tournament Review for April 20, 2015

This weekend in New Jersey, over $500,000 in guaranteed prizes were up for grabs across all sites, which resulted in several five-figure paydays. There were six NJCOP events on Sunday alone on PartyPoker/Borgata. PocketFiver sang500 won Event #9, a $30,000 guarantee, for $5,475. Winning NJCOP Event #10, which was a $100,000 guarantee, was deerpathdave, who banked $17,820.

Tournament Review for April 20, 2015

The biggest cash by any PocketFiver over the weekend came in the PokerStars Sunday 500, when in the wee hours of the morning it was Canada's Lockhurt beating out a 786 player field to win $70,740. At one point, it appeared Lockhurt was going to have to settle for second place after a hand left him with about four big blinds heads-up before making a comeback to win the tournament.

Nevada Weekend Tournament Review for March 16, 2015

Chopping the Sunday Million the Day After Your Bachelor Party

Last month, Denmark's marktb (pictured) took down the PokerStars Sunday 500 outright for $72,000. There were over 800 entrants that day and marktb bested a final table that included a half-dozen members of the PocketFives community. That score came a few years after a pretty memorable hit in the Sunday Million on a very special weekend. More on that to come.

New Jersey Weekday Tournament Review for April 24, 2015

This week in New Jersey, the PartyPoker/Borgata Poker NJCOP series ran eight events, which totaled a combined $155,000 in guaranteed prize pools. PocketFiver Billson won Event #16 for $5,282. Savant111 made the final table of both PLO events, winning Event #20 and finishing second in Event #22 for a total of $4,328. Shipping Event #18 was Ryan66223, who added $5,325 to his bankroll.

Italy Wins Inaugural Global Poker Masters World Cup

The first edition of the Global Poker Masters World Cup took place over the weekend at the Hilton Portomaso in Malta, pitting the top eight GPI ranked teams against each other. After two days of play, sixth ranked Team Italy, represented by Mustapha Kanit, Rocco Palumbo, Dario Sammartino, Andrea Dato, and Giuliano Bendinelli, defied the odds and were crowned the first champions of the event.

Nevada Weekend Tournament Review for March 23, 2015

This weekend in Nevada, nine PocketFives members made it to 15 final tables, cashing for $13,073 collectively. butters won over $5,370 for taking down both the Sunday $10K Reloader and Sunday $3,000 Six-Max events. 80% of Full Tilt Poker Petitions Have Been Paid

According to Garden City Group, the appointed claims administrator for US Full Tilt Poker refunds, 80% of petitions have been paid back. The most recent round of payments came on March 31 and was the first destined for players with disputed totals. There were 3,100 payments sent totaling $2.5 million.
