Random tidbits - Vegas, baby![ return to main articles page ]

These past couple of weeks have been fun for me, as I have been playing a lot of poker, particularly some "fun" type games that have reminded me why I started playing to begin with. One day last week, PocketFives blogger VIPDIRECT asked me if I wanted to start a 1-2 NL game on Stars and try to get more people from the community to come out and play. I thought it sounded like fun, so we got it going. Soon enough, several people came to join us, including haloth2 and muchaka, who are both excellent players. We all just basically hung out in the game, chatting it up and occasionally pushing chips into the pot. I know that VIP and I both left with around 2x our $200 buy in, so it wasn't a bad session from a financial standpoint either.

I've also been playing more of the Step tournaments on PartyPoker, which I still haven't been able to beat past the first couple levels. Basically, I've been stuck at regular step 3 and mini-step 4. There's no potential to win any money if I don't get to step 5, so I'll have to keep working on that, and I don't mind, since I have fun playing them. I've been watching great players such as Sdouble and brainwash, who play and win these things regularly, and I'm trying to figure out why I haven't been able to beat them yet. In time, I am sure...

Today, I made my first 4-figure deposit on Bodog, and I am planning on playing there throughout the coming weekend. This is one of the hottest up-and-coming sites on the net, and I have not been fully taking advantage of the opportunities they are providing, which include, among other things, an overlay every Sunday in excess of $40k in their $100 tournament. They're also having a big WSOP seat promotion this coming Saturday, which is the main reason I put more of my money in there.

Honestly, I've rarely moved much money into a "new" site such as Bodog, as I'm more the type to grow accustomed to certain sites and just stick with what works. This site is just giving away too much money right now to pass up---it would be silly for me not to give it a shot. I've had money in there, but only enough to play some of the smallest games and a couple tournaments here and there. Now I'm going to see what I can really accomplish on the site.

The bottom line is I HAVE to play in the main event of the WSOP. I will be flat out bummed if I have to watch it from the sidelines, thinking about what could have been. I need to at least know I gave it a shot, and while I haven't played very many satellites this year, the ones I have played haven't been fruitful, so I need to really get on that if I want to win a seat. This weekend on bodog is the perfect opportunity to do that, with 24 seats guaranteed over a 24 hour period.

And speaking of which, is anyone else as pumped as I am for the World Series? I can't wait to see the scene of the main event, and the crazy number of people that will be in attendance. I'm also really excited to put faces on several of the names I've talked to so much through this site for the last few months. 10 days in Vegas, time to hang out with friends, and the chance to win millions of dollars---it could be a lot worse.

So I'm going to make it an all Bodog weekend. I will play the $100k guaranteed and as many of the satellites on Saturday as I can keep myself awake for, hoping to pull through one of them and reserve my seat in the biggest poker tournament in history. Feel free to come and say hi--my name there is AdamP5s.

By the way, that bonus we're always talking about there is especially nice. I took $1,000 out of Stars, and within 5 minutes, it had become $1,200 on Bodog. It really doesn't take long to be able to withdraw it either. I believe I have to accrue 600 points at a rate of basically 1 point per raked hand or 6 points for tournament entry fee dollar, and then I will be able to withdraw anything in my account, including the bonus. It won't even take me a week to get 600 points, so this is a great system for us, the players. That's what I keep finding out about Bodog in general---they are going to great lengths to make their players happy. Great customer service, great bonus, great tournaments; this site is going to grow like a weed.

Good luck to everyone this weekend, I hope to see many of you in the tournaments on Saturday, and hopefully some of you will win your seat as well. Bodog definitely seems like a good place to do it.
