Rankings Update: Huge Jumps in Top 30[ return to main articles page ]

Mr. Menlo had an especially huge boost in the PocketFives.com Online Tournament Player Rankings this week, due to the inclusion of the previous week's Sunday Million, which he won for over $200k. It didn't hurt that he also won a $100 rebuy recently, and it won't hurt him next week that he won a Full Tilt $150 on Monday. He's just killing it in the tournaments he plays, and it looks like he's only playing MTTs a couple days a week, despite putting up more wins and final tables than almost anyone.

Just below him in the rankings, Yearly PLB leader ComeOnPhish also made a big move, up 11 spots to number 27, and RandALLin, who was recently featured for having already won 5 MTTs on UB this year (including the most recent $200k Guaranteed), moved up 10 spots to number 29, due primarily to that huge win on Sunday.

Right outside the top 30, GB2005 was the other huge mover in the top half of the rankings, and similarly to mr. menlo's jump, this one was due in part to the inclusion of the previous week's Sunday Million, in which he took 3rd place.

In the top 10 this week, we had one upward mover, and the rest pretty much stayed the same. Atimos, who's currently in the number 2 position in the Sliding PLB, moved up to number 8 in the rankings. He's seen his pro poll steadily rise of late, probably due to the fact that he's been final tabling tournaments all over the place. He had four final tables last week, including a 3rd place finish on Stars that was worth 130 PLB points.

PokerJoe9 and gboro780 are both knocking on the door of the top 10. PokerJoe moved up 5 spots to number 11, having had that amazing Monday that everyone's been talking about. He won two $100 rebuys on Stars and took 2nd in the Full Tilt $1k and $150---a day that's already on the short list for the "Greatest Online Accomplishment" award for 2007. Gboro moved up 2 spots to number 12, and he pretty much just had his standard week, which included a win of more than $7k in a PokerStars $50 tournament and a 2nd place in a $100 rebuy for more than $15k.

The last big mover in the top 20 was AndyMcLEOD, who jumped all the way from 23rd to 17th in the rankings. It seems I'm writing about him every week in this article, and this past week, he "only" had two 5-figure scores, taking down a Full Tilt $150 and a Stars $100 rebuy for a combined $31k.

Just outside the top 50 (and not for long) is The-Toilet, who won the Stars Sunday Warm Up just a week after he took down the UB $200k. He jumped 14 spots this week, landing at number 51.

AaronBeen has been flying high on UltimateBet lately, but this week he brought his success over to Stars, taking down a $100 rebuy for over $23k. He also made a sharp move in the rankings, rising 9 spots to number 57.

One of the top players thus far in the 2007 Yearly PLB is busto_soon, who's been picking up nice scores all over the place. He won a $100 tournament on UltimateBet on Sunday, but his really impressive day was Thursday. He had 10 (yes, 10) cashes that day in tournaments that qualify for the rankings, and those cashes were across UltimateBet, Party, and Stars. Among those cashes were a 5th in a $100 rebuy on Stars, a win in a Party $150, and a 3rd place in a $10 rebuy on Stars. He now sits at number 61 in the rankings, having moved up 11 spots over his last placement.

Three other players who made significant jumps in the rankings this week were Mr_BigCheese (up 14 spots to number 80), Hixx (up 15 spots to 84), and Phwap (up 10 spots to 86). Mr_BigCheese had a week that included winning rebuy tournaments on UB and Stars, and Hixx finished 3rd in the Full Tilt Monday $1k event.

Worldsgrtest enters the rankings this week, passing 19 players on the way to the number 81 spot. He was often ranked under the old system and has always had the respect of his peers. One one day this past week, he took 2nd in two big tournaments on Stars, playing as LuckyLady519. Those two tournaments were the $100 rebuy and the nightly $150.

Vegan213, who recently won the Full Tilt $750k Guaranteed, took down a Full Tilt $150 and had a couple other cashes last week, and he now enters the rankings at number 93. Tork was another new addition, having put up a number of solid results lately on Stars, including a win in the Second Chance $200 in January. Two8off has been in and out of the rankings, and this week he re-entered at number 100.
