Apparently, a potential prop bet for a boxing match has been made between poker pros Richard chuftyAshby and Shaun shaundeeb Deeb (pictured). According to Deeb’s Twitter account, Ashby laid down the challenge late last week. “Was just informed the legendary chufty wants to box me for 50K,” Deeb reported to his Twitter followers. “Could be fun way to get in some kind of shape besides round.”

After issuing that Tweet, Deeb has fallen silent on the subject and hasn’t chirped out any further details regarding the potential bout.

This isn’t the first time that poker pros have decided to enter into the ring. Just last year, Lex RaSZiVeldhuis and Bertrand ElkYGrospellier entered a bullfighting arena in Spain for a kickboxing match that was set to last five three-minute rounds. Veldhuis, who came into the fight having done some kickboxing training, pounded Grospellier for the entirety of the fight before dropping the Frenchman with two head kicks that he couldn’t recover from.

Three years ago prior to the start of the European Poker Tour stop in Copenhagen, Gus Hansen(pictured) and Theo Jorgensen decided to enter the ring. With $35,000 on the line for Jorgensen if he won and $25,000 going to Hansen if he took down the fight, Jorgensen was able to earn a decision from the judges to take home the cash.

The ladies have gotten into the action as well, with Liv Boeree winning a decision in her bout against former poker reporter Melissa Castello in 2009 and donating her $1,000 in winnings to charity.

Deeb is no stranger to getting his name out in front of the poker consciousness. One of the top online players in existence, Deeb has been able to make the move to the live poker arena with a good deal of success. Since 2006, he has earned over $1.8 million in tournament poker earnings, but has probably racked up more in cash games, which he has stated he enjoys more.

In 2009, weary from a life on the road and being connected to online multi-tabling, Deeb said that he was retiring from the game. That “retirement” lasted all of one year, with Deeb returning to the live and virtual felt in grand style. He picked up his second PokerStarsWorld Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) title and won his first PokerStars Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) tournament. Just this year, Deeb took down an astounding four championships during the latter to run his total to five SCOOP titles, a record.

Let’s get back to the question of the proposed boxing match between Deeb and Ashby. If the fight were to actually occur, it might be an interesting one. Deeb, at 26, would have the age advantage over the 40-year-old Ashby, but you could expect that the Brit may have some tricks up his sleeve that would negate the age difference.
