Oh man. This would be epic: Shaun shaundeeb Deeb (pictured) winning the World Series of Poker Main Event. I'm pretty sure the world would end, like in "I Am Legend." After the completion of Days 2A and 2B of the Main Event, Deeb is third in chips with a stack of 460,900. He's one of only three players to cross 400,000 and bluntly posted on Twitter, "460K, I ran so good today, had so many big hands that didn't even get shown." We don't really have to share Deeb's recent poker accolades due to his popularity, but we're going to anyway. Earlier this year, Deeb scored four PokerStars Spring Championship of Online Poker titles for five total, the most by any player ever. Comments in a PocketFives feature article about Deeb's fifth SCOOP title included, "Commence flash mob puking session. This dude's so ill" and, "Incredibly impressive. Truly one of the greatest to play."
But Deeb wasn't done there. In a $25,000 satellite to the recent Big One for One Drop at the WSOP, Deeb finished second after allegedly allowing his heads-up opponent, Gus Hansen, to win the seat. Deeb ended up taking home $1 million as a "consolation prize."
Deeb was quite active on Twitter throughout his run in the Main Event so far, posting gems such as, "Gram's out, she busted while I was double c/r betting the river, don't know jj yet" and, "My childish nature makes me love the 300 600 75, get to drag pots with a lot of chips in them and pluck out 5 diff colors." Deeb's grandmother, 92-year-old Ellen Deeb (pictured), gave the "Shuffle up and deal" command on Day 1A.Deeb ran into the buzz saw known as David "The Dragon" Pham at the end of Day 2. He dropped 20,000 in chips after folding on a board of K-Q-2-4-6. Pham showed the king of diamonds as he sent his hand to the dealer, but Deeb was still among the chip leaders after the end of Days 2A and 2B, which both ran on Tuesday at the Rio in Las Vegas.
Earlier in the day, Deeb showed A-9 of spades on a flop of A-9-5. An opponent check-folded to a bet from Deeb and the longtime PocketFives member continued his assault on the top of the leaderboard.
France's Gaelle Baumann (pictured) leads the way after Days 2A and 2B with a stack of 505,800. She is the only player to cross the half-million mark. Although it's way too premature to say she'll be making the final table as a member of the October Nine, a deep run by Baumann would be historical.According to WSOP.com, "In the entire 43-year history of the World Series of Poker, a woman has appeared at the championship final table only once. Others have come close, but Poker Hall of Famer Barbara Enright, who finished fifth in the 1995 Main Event Championship, still stands at the only woman in history to take a seat at poker's most monumental table." However, five more days of play still remain in the Main Event.
Here are the top 20 players after Days 2A and 2B, according to PokerNews:
