Smeckten won his fifth PocketFives Triple Crown

On Tuesday, Sweden’s Smecktencaptured his fifth PocketFives Triple Crown. It was his second of the month and the 56th earned by a player from the European country over the years. Smeckten told PocketFives shortly afterwards, “It was a good way to end the year. The last tournament for my fifth Triple Crown is the last tournament I’ll enter this year.” Way to go out in style.

On December 27, Smeckten won the 888 Poker Crocodilefor $16,000. The tournament had a $160 buy-in and Smeckten played under the user name Ejsenhoven1on its host network. There were 532 entrants in the Crocodile and Smeckten was one of four PocketFivers to make the final table.

It took all of two days from there for Smeckten to claim his fifth PocketFives Triple Crown. On December 29, he won the PartyPoker Heavyweight Turbofor $2,700 and the PokerStars $82 No Limit Hold’em Six-Max Hyper-Turbo for $3,600. More importantly, the dual wins meant his fifth Triple Crown and his second one earned in December.

The Heavyweight Turbo on PartyPoker had a $109 buy-in and 109 runners. Smeckten was one of three members of PocketFives to finish in the top seven. The Hyper-Turbo on PokerStars attracted a field of 198 and a dozen PocketFivers cashed in it for 37% of the prize pool in total.

Smeckten’s first Triple Crown came on December 1, 2013 after victories on PokerStars, PokerStars.fr, and Winamax for a total of 606 PLB Points. Eight months later, he won tournaments on PartyPoker, Full Tilt, and PokerStars.fr for a total of 715 PLB Points, his largest sum for a Triple Crown.

The Swede won his next accolade in December 2014 after taking down MTTs on PokerStars.fr, PokerStars, and Full Tilt for a total of 511 PLB Points. His Triple Crown earlier this month, the fourth of his career, was worth 379 points and came after wins on PartyPoker, Betfair, and PokerStars.fr. His latest Triple Crown is his only one not to include a win on PokerStars.fr.

Smeckten’s PocketFives profile

The Sweden pokercommunity is up to 56 Triple Crowns overall, the fourth largest total of any country behind the United States (136), Canada (124), and the United Kingdom (123). Smeckten, perhaps unsurprisingly, is up to #3 worldwide in the PocketFives Rankings, his highest position ever.

A Triple Crown requires a player to win three MTTs on three different networks that PocketFives tracks within a seven-day period. Each tournament must have a prize pool of at least $10,000, 100 or more players, and a real money buy-in. Satellites do not count.

Smeckten will start off 2016 by passing $4 million in career online tournament cashes.
