Tournament action is a little slow in January, but for players who choose not to hibernate, there are a few tournaments to be found. Welcome to the PocketFives Live Tournament Preview presented by TourneyTracks.com. Let’s take a look and see what’s on deck.

East

Delaware Park Casino in Wilmington (pictured) is hosting its Winter Poker Classic from January 1 to January 13. The series will feature 21 events priced for moderate bankrolls with buy-ins from $100 to $750. There will be some Stud, HORSE, and Omaha mixed in with the Hold’em events.

The Borgata Winter Poker Open returns to Borgata in Atlantic City, New Jersey from January 14 to January 31. The series boasts 47 tournaments with buy-ins from $145 to $3,500 offered in a wide variety of formats. The Borgata remains one of the premier tournament destinations on the East Coast and this event should be a winner.

West

Caesars Palace is hosting its Winter Poker Classic from January 10 to January 19. The series has 20 events with buy-ins from $130 to $560. The $560 Main Event will also include an Ante Up Magazine Cruise package for first place. This should be another ideal series for moderate bankrolls.

California has a few options available in January. First, the Bicycle Casino near Los Angeles (pictured) is hosting the Mega Millions from January 2 to January 14. The $1 million guaranteed tournament offers several ways to enter, with buy-ins of $160, $550, $1,160, and $5,300 available. This could be a good opportunity to play for some big money with a small buy-in.

The Heartland Poker Tour has a couple of stops as well. First, the HPT stops at Thunder Valley Casino from January 13 to January 26. There will be several satellites for the $1,650 televised Main Event as well as 10 tournaments. Then, the HPT stops at Club One Casino in Fresno from January 31 to February 10, offering five tournaments in addition to the $1,650 Main Event.

Finally, Commerce Casino hosts the LA Poker Classic from January 17 to March 6. There are a variety of tournaments available including the $10,000 World Poker Tour televised Main Event. There is something for everyone here and this could arguably be the biggest series of the year behind the WSOP. It’s definitely a can’t-miss event for West Coast grinders.

Central

There isn’t much happening in the central states this month. However, the World Series of Poker Circuit does stop at Choctaw Casino in Durant, Oklahoma from January 9 to January 20. There will be the standard 12 ring events with buy-ins from $365 to $1,675 in addition to three non-ring events and several satellites.

South

The Isle Poker Classic runs at Isle Casino in Pompano Park, Florida from January 2 to January 21. There will be 20 events with buy-ins from $60 to $1,090. The Isle Casino runs solid events, but you won’t find much other than No Limit Hold’em there.

The PokerStars Caribbean Adventure returns to the Atlantis Casino in the Bahamas (pictured) from January 5 to January 13. There will be 33 events with buy-ins ranging from $100 to $100,000 offered in a variety of formats. This tournament series offers a tropical location and a party atmosphere. The Atlantis can be a little expensive, but there’s sure to be lots of action and tons of online grinders.

The Heartland Poker Tour season kicks off again this year with a Card Player Cruise sailing from Port Canaveral with stops in St. Maarten, St. Thomas, and the Bahamas from January 12 to January 19. Unlike landlocked HPT events, the Main Event on the cruise offers a lower buy-in of $1,100.

Mississippi has three events this month. First, the Beau Rivage in Biloxi hosts the Million Dollar Heater from January 3 to January 15, which has a total of $1 million in guaranteed prize pools. The series will have 16 events with buy-ins from $135 to $2,600.

The Senior Poker Tour, a new tour for the over-50 crowd, hosts its inaugural series at the Horseshoe Casino in Tunica from January 14 to January 19. There are a wide variety of tournaments available and the final table will be live-streamed on the internet.

Finally, the WSOP Circuit will stop at Harrah’s Tunica from January 23 to February 3. There will be the standard 12 ring events with buy-ins from $365 to $1,675. Additionally, there are several $135 non-ring events.
