Germany’s ‘Ssick_OnE’ became the first two-time winner of the 2016 SCOOP after outlasting a stacked final table

The 2016 PokerStars Spring Championship of Online Poker, or SCOOP, has been all about two countries: Brazil and Germany. The former is up to 12 victories in the first 60 tournaments, while Germany already has a repeat winner: ‘Ssick_OnE‘.

After taking down a mid-stakes No Limit Hold’em Six-Max Shootout three days ago, ‘Ssick_OnE’ was back at it on Saturday night, winning a $700 No Limit Hold’em event, the high-stakes version of Event #18. The final eight was as stacked as it gets, as it included heavyweights like reigning SCOOP Player of the Series Jason ‘treysfull21’ Mercier and reigning European Poker Tour Player of the Year Mike ‘timex’ McDonald. The final eight had three former SCOOP winners.

‘Ssick_OnE’ entered the final eight as the chip leader and relinquished that title before doubling up with aces against kings. The German online poker player sent ‘4rebmun‘ packing in fourth place after ‘4rebmun’ moved all-in on the river of a board showing 9d7d7cJh5c with nothing but Qd8d for busted flush and straight draws. ‘Ssick_OnE’ snapped it off with pocket jacks for a full house and became the overwhelming chip leader. From there, it was just a formality.

The German banked $143,879.94 for the win, while the runner-up, ‘Pokerger1337‘, earned $102,554.03. ‘Ssick_OnE’ became the first two-time winner of this year’s SCOOP and picked up the seventh win for Germany this year.

Then there’s Brazil. On Friday, players from Brazil won two more events to raise their 2016 haul to 10. On Saturday, Brazil added another two wins to its coffers and, as a result, players from the South American nation now stand at 12 wins.

The latest winner from Brazil was ‘theispoker‘, who took down a $27 Fixed Limit Omaha High-Low Eight-Max tournament. Despite the low buy-in, the event had a lot on the line. For ‘theispoker’, it was about extending Brazil’s impressive lead over the rest of the world at this year’s SCOOP.

For Canada’s ‘buzzard1881‘, a win would mean a prestigious Triple COOP. He won a WCOOP title in 2013 and two TCOOP titles in January. For Russia’s ‘aDrENalin710‘, a win would have meant COOP win #5.

Heads-up, a deal was almost struck, but nothing came to fruition and the Brazilian raged on with almost a 3:1 chip lead. He needed just nine hands to polish off Austria’s ‘Lechi1984‘ and cement a dozen wins for Brazil this year.

The other win for Brazil on Saturday came in the low-stakes version of Event #18, a $7.50 No Limit Hold’em tournament. It attracted almost 16,000 entrants and paid out a prize pool that passed $109,000. In the end, it boiled down to a battle of Brazilians, as ‘ericluccas88‘ defeated fellow countryman ‘winning elev‘ to take home $13,000. Another Brazilian, ‘victorbco‘, finished in ninth place.

Also on Saturday, Stephen ‘stevie444’ Chidwick won his second career SCOOP title after taking down a $215 Fixed Limit Omaha High-Low Eight-Max event, his third career COOP win. His other SCOOP win came three years ago in a $2,100 Fixed Limit Triple Draw 2-7 event for $52,000. He won a WCOOP Second Chance tournament in 2009 and emerged victorious in a WCOOP $320 Pot Limit Badugi tournament in 2013.
